White Sox Acquire Andrew Dobies from Boston

WEEI in Boston is reporting that the White Sox have acquired minor league lefthander Andrew Dobies from the Boston Red Sox for cash or a player to be named later. The 27-year-old reliever has been decent in limited action this year for the Portland Sea Dogs, sporting a 1.80 ERA through five innings pitched. The move comes on the pitcher’s birthday.

Dobies has a 24-25 record and a 4.08 ERA in the Red Sox system since 2004. He sat out 2008 due to injury. This is what SoxProspects.com has to say about Dobies:

Dobies is a fierce competitor with a nice delivery.  Fastball hits the mid-to-high-80s with decent movement, which is varied by an excellent changeup and a decent slider…..”
