WEEI in Boston is reporting that the White Sox have acquired minor league lefthander Andrew Dobies from the Boston Red Sox for cash or a player to be named later. The 27-year-old reliever has been decent in limited action this year for the Portland Sea Dogs, sporting a 1.80 ERA through five innings pitched. The move comes on the pitcher’s birthday.
Dobies has a 24-25 record and a 4.08 ERA in the Red Sox system since 2004. He sat out 2008 due to injury. This is what SoxProspects.com has to say about Dobies:
“Dobies is a fierce competitor with a nice delivery. Fastball hits the mid-to-high-80s with decent movement, which is varied by an excellent changeup and a decent slider…..”
Visit the link above for more on Dobies. He’s not expected to be a lefty specialist, rather, an organizational relief guy for the Sox.
