Thomas Royse, selected by the White Sox in the supplemental 3rd round of the 2010 MLB draft, is the first player to have agreed to terms with the White Sox.
The White Sox received the unprotected, supplemental 3rd round pick for failing to sign last years 3rd rounder, lefty Bryan Morgado, who was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 4th round (141 overall) this year.
There is no reported bonus demand, but given the speed of the signing, it is probably safe to assume that Royse signed for slot money, which for the 114th pick in the draft, is approximately $280,000.
Mark Gonzalez reports that Thomas Royse will start his pro career with the Great Falls Voyagers, whose season starts June 21st (link):
Louisville pitcher Thomas Royse signed a contract with the White Sox.
Royse
was a third-round compensation pick in this week’s amateur draft. Royse
will report to short-season Great Falls.
Thomas Royse has solid stuff, with a repertoire that includes an 89-93 mph fastball, a potentially plus slider, which has impressive depth as well as an average change. Royse commands his pitches well, he gets good life on his pitches and he has an advanced feel for pitching, which should allow him to dominate the lower minors.
