The title says it all. The NCAA Tournament is in the Super Regional round this weekend and the first game (Mississippi State @ Florida with Frank Thomas on the call) is currently on ESPN2. A number of White Sox draft picks will be in action and all of them will be on TV if you want to follow these prospects. Here is the list:
16 teams are left and all series are best of 3. Game times for game 3s not yet set. All times central.
Santa Clara Super Regional (June 11-13)
Dallas Baptist vs. Cal
Picks involved: Erik Johnson (round 2, RHP, Cal), Marcus Semien (round 6, SS, Cal), Chadd Krist (round 13, C, Cal)
TV: Game 1: Saturday 7, ESPNU. Game 2: Sunday 9, ESPNU
The Sox took more players from Cal than anywhere else and their first pick from a four-year college (Johnson) is the Bears’ Friday night starter giving this series the most intrigue for Sox fans. Johnson should start game one Saturday night while Semien and Krist hit early in the Cal order, sometimes even back-to-back. All three are juniors.
Chapel Hill Super Regional (June 10-12)
Stanford @ North Carolina
Pick involved: Scott Snodgress (round 5, LHP, Stanford)
TV: Game 1: Today 2, ESPN2. Game 2: Saturday 2, ESPN
Snodgress pitches out of the Cardinal bullpen, but isn’t their closer. That distinction goes to Dodgers first rounder Chris Reed. Snodgress hasn’t pitched since May 24.
Columbia (SC) Super Regional (June 11-13)
Connecticut @ South Carolina
Pick involved: Kevin Vance (round 19, RHP, UConn)
TV: Game 1: Saturday 5, ESPN2 Game 2: Sunday 6, ESPNU
Another reliever, Vance pitched just once in UConn’s five regional games, but he is the Huskies’ closer and will see action in this series.
Tallahassee Super Regional (June 11-13)
Texas A&M @ Florida State
Pick involved: Brandon Parrent (round 30, LHP, Texas A&M)
TV: Game 1: Saturday 3:30, ESPNU. Game 2: Sunday 3, ESPNU
Parrent had a decent season, but didn’t crack the Aggies’ weekend rotation. He hasn’t pitched since May 25 and would only see action out of the bullpen this weekend.
Charlottesville Super Regional (June 11-13)
UC Irvine @ Virginia
Pick involved: Cody Winiarski (round 36, RHP, Virginia)
TV: Game 1: Saturday Noon, ESPNU. Game 2: Sunday Noon, ESPNU
Winiarski is actually the Cavaliers’ fourth starter, but that’s no insult. The top-seeded team in the land features No. 2 overall pick Danny Hultzen and had three starters taken in the first ten rounds. Winiarski could see action out of the bullpen though.
