Getting lost with all the draft coverage were the roster announcements for the all-star games of several minor leagues. For White Sox affiliates, the Southern League (AA), Carolina League (High-A) and South Atlantic League (Low-A) released their all-stars. Voting for the AAA All-Star Game takes place online and you can access the ballot here. In total, 13 Sox minor leaguers received the honor and a few more could get named with promotions and injuries changing the rosters.
Southern League
June 21 – Pringles Park (Jackson, TN)
Format: North Division (5 teams) vs. South Division (5 teams)
Tyler Kuhn
Christian Marrero
Brandon Short
Dylan Axelrod
Charles Leesman
Dan Remenowsky
Kuhn has burst onto the scene by being the current batting leader in the league at .366 while Short has had a pair of extended hit streaks and Marrero is second in total bases to Paul Goldschmidt’s monster season. On the pitching side, Axelrod just recently got promoted to AAA Charlotte so he may not be able to participate in the game.
Carolina League
June 21 – John Thurman Field (Modesto, CA)
Format: California League (11 teams) vs. Carolina League (8 teams)
Andre Rienzo
Jose Martinez
Ian Gac
Andy Wilkins*
Gac leads the Carolina League in homers (16), total bases (131) and runs (44), but is also second in strikeouts to Jared Mitchell. Martinez is second in the league in hits (73). Wilkins has had a mediocre season, but was a late addition for a promoted player.
South Atlantic League
June 21 – Arthur W. Perdue Stadium (Salisbury, MD)
Format: Northern Division (7 teams) vs. Southern Division (7 teams)
Ross Wilson
Trayce Thompson
Brady Shoemaker
Despite just a .313 OBP, Thompson ranks second in the SAL with 48 runs. Shoemaker sports a .300+ batting average and Wilson is deserving at second base despite a recent slump, but first baseman Dan Black is having the best offensive season for Kannapolis. First base is loaded in the league though and Black didn’t make the cut.
