White Sox Select 1B Keon Barnum in Supplemental Round

With their second and final pick of the first night of the MLB Draft, the White Sox again went the prep route, selecting 1B Keon Barnum from King High School in Florida.
The White Sox were expected to target pitching in the supplemental round after picking up Courtney Hawkins in round one, but Barnum fills a definite need in the White Sox system. Barnum is a prototypical first base prospect with big power potential, and much like Hawkins, at 6-5 and over 220 pounds, Barnum is physically advanced for a high school prospect.
The main concern with Barnum is whether he will be able to maintain hitting for average as he advances in professional baseball. He has some of the best power in the draft.
Barnum is committed to Miami, but is expected to sign and would more than likely end up in rookie ball. The 19-year-old is reportedly close to signing.
