Who is Hot: Matt Davidson continues to show off his bat, collecting three more hits. Tyler Saladino went 3-3 tonight and is batting .529 on the young season. Courtney Hawkins absolutely went off, blasting his third homer and driving in five. Hawkins is now leading the Carolina League in homers and runs batted in. Tim Anderson’s offense: Anderson went 2-5 tonight with his second triple of the season. Andrew Mitchell pitched 5 no-hit innings before losing his no-hitter and the shutout in the 6th. He still pitched very well, striking out six and only allowing two hits through five innings. Cleuluis Rondon, acquired in the Peavy trade from Boston, is a defensive wizard at SS but his bat has always lagged behind. Today, Rondon went 3-7 and raised his average to .304. If he can provide any kind of offense, expect him to rise up prospect lists in the coming years.
Who is Not: Jared Mitchell’s once bright future is a distant memory, he went 0-2 tonight and has only 1 hit thus far this season. 2013 3rd round draft pick Jacob May had a very strong professional debut last season, but has struggled out of the gate so far. May went 1-5 tonight but is only hitting .095. Tim Anderson’s defense at SS was a question mark when the White Sox took the toolsy player in the first round out of Junior College. He hasn’t done much to put those doubts to rest, as he had two more errors tonight, giving him five errors in total.
