5/6 Recap – Hanson with encouraging start for the Knights

The affiliates’ offensive woes continued today as the three teams combined for a grand total of six runs. Charlotte did skate by Lehigh Valley in their game behind a strong Tommy Hanson while Birmingham and Winston-Salem came up short. Kannapolis did not play today but they will resume activity tomorrow.

Star of the Day: Tommy Hanson, SP
While there weren’t many great performances to choose from, Hanson was strong in his win today. Making his fourth start for Charlotte, Hanson evened up his record at 2-2 and brought his ERA down to 3.26. While his peripherals aren’t anything to write home about (13/13 K/BB in 19.1 innings), Hanson did set up hitters to beat the ball into the ground as he put forth a 8.00 GO/AO for the day. His ability to get the ball on the ground is encouraging considering that he had a GO/AO of .94 coming into the game. Hanson could certainly become a factor in Chicago as the White Sox have lost 60% of their opening day rotation in the first month.
Cooling Off
After a strong start to the season for Trayce Thompson, the 23-year-old outfield has really cooled off. Over his last 44 plate appearances Thompson has hit .158 (6-38) with 16 strikeouts (36.4%). The recent cold streak comes as no surprise as we have seen many streaky stretches for Thompson throughout his long minor league career.
