Star of the Day: Trayce Thompson came into tonight’s game having an absolutely miserable month of May, but hopefully he busted out. The toolsy but vexing outfielder bashed his fourth homer and also doubled in a strong night at the plate.
Who is Hot: Matt Davidson has officially rose above the Mendoza Line! Davidson went 2-4 tonight with his 5th homer and his season batting average now stands at .201. That may be a meager number, but over his last ten games he is hitting .316/.333/.526. Winston-Salem power arms Jefferson Olacio and Kyle Hansen combined to throw six innings while allowing no earned runs and only four hits. Tony Bucciferro tossed a six inning complete game, only allowing two earned runs.
Who is Not: Courtney Hawkins was plagued last season by a ridiculously high strikeout rate, and while he has improved it this season, he struck out four times in seven at bats tonight. Charlie Leesman made a spot start in Chicago thanks to some great pitching, but he was roughed up tonight for Charlotte. Keenyn Walker drew the golden sombrero, the dubious distinction of striking out four times in one game. Walker, a former 1st round pick, is batting .145/.174/.217 on the season.
