High school righty Spencer Adams drafted 44th by White Sox

After taking Carlos Rodon with the third overall pick, there was a thought that the White Sox might take an easier sign. On paper, Spencer Adams does not appear to be that.
The high school right-handed pitcher out of White County High School in Georgia was thought to be a first round talent by many draft evaluators and the Sox snapped him up with the No. 44 pick.
Adams, a 6-foot-5, 190-pounder, has a mid-to-low 90s fastball that has good movement and tops out at 95-96. He also has a big projectable frame and on the MLB Network show was credited as having “clean mechanics.” Adams’ slider is his best offspeed pitch. He also has a curve and a change, but are further behind the fastball and slider.
The Georgia recruit was also a three-sport star in high school, leading some belief that he could add velocity as he focuses on baseball.
Adams was rated No. 23 by Baseball America, No. 27 by MLB.com (scouting video) and No. 34 by Scout.com. Clearly, if the Sox can sign him and Rodon they’ve added some great value to the system.
Baseball America notes him as one of the best athletes in the draft and says his mid 80s slider has plus potential. He has also shown good command.
