Saturday wasn’t just a busy day at the World Cup. It was also a busy day for White Sox affiliates. Charlotte and Winston-Salem had doubleheaders, meaning six games were played. Scott Snodgress, Francellis Montas and Thad Lowry all took the mound and gave us something to talk about.

Snodgress’ 106-pitch effort is a bit unlucky, but was otherwise impressive. He struck out 7, walked none and gave up just one extra-base hit (a two-RBI double). He also had 11 ground outs against four fly outs and left with two inherited runners for reliever David Cales, both of which scored in the top of the 9th.
The Barons just turned a TRIPLE PLAY against the Biscuits in the 5th inning! It’s the 1st for the Barons since May 31st, 2010 vs. Tennessee.

Montas had showed excellent control in his first seven starts this season. This was the first time he walked more than two batters in an outing. This is maybe more back to his career numbers; he walked 50 in 111 innings last year. Maybe it’s just a blip on the radar from Montas’ newfound success.

Star of the day: Jacob May
May was 5-7 with two doubles, a triple and two stolen bases in Saturday’s doubleheader. He’s showing to be as streaky as he was last season, when he torched the Pioneer League for 12 games, earned a promotion to Kannapolis, started ice cold with the Intimidators and then finished as our hitter of the month for August/September. His OPS month-by-month this season: .441 (April), .669 (May), .909 (June).
