White Sox affiliates went an even 3-3 Monday, had a walk-off win (Great Falls) and a walk-off loss (Winston-Salem). A few more 2014 draft picks debuted, and we’re seeing enough play from the rookie affiliates to start seeing who is starting hot and who is not…
Charlotte 8, Toledo 6
M. Johnson 3-5, K
C. Sanchez 3-4, SB
Semien 0-4, BB, 2 K, CS
Jor Danks 2-4, HR, BB, K
Davidson 1-4, HR, BB, 2 K
Wilkins 3-5, HR
Axelrod 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Micah Johnson already has a number of 3-hit days for Charlotte. Davidson and Wilkins both have 12 home runs already, but neither are hitting for any kind of average. Sanchez continues to hit and could be in Chicago in the near future.
Birmingham 5, Jacksonville 1
Thompson 2-4, 2B, K
Ravelo 2-4, 2 2B, K
Smith 1-4, HR
Farrell 2-3, 2B, BB
Snodgress 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K
Scott Snodgress has been improving of late, with a 3.54 ERA in his last 10 games. The strikeouts are still a little below where you’d like to see them (58 K in 84.2 IP), but the walks are improving (20 in last 60.1 IP). Ravelo continues to be a doubles machine and has proven to be a legit offensive prospect, increasing his power along the way.
Lynchburg 6, Winston-Salem 5 (in 10)
May 3-5, 3B
Anderson 0-5, K, E (29)
Hawkins 1-5, 3B, K
Barnum 4-4
DeMichele 2-4, BB
Heisler 2-4, K, SB
Wendelken 6 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Jacob May has turned it on after a very slow start in High A, posting a .958 OPS with 6 XBH in his last 10 games. He also has 19 SB in 23 ATT so far this year. Barnum has also bounced back from a rough start.
Hickory 2, Kannapolis 0
Rondon 1-3, BB, K
Hayes 1-4, K
Leyer 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Robinson Leyer is starting to get some attention, not just for his strong recent performance (1.71 ERA in last 10 starts), but also his fastball velocity that is now regularly low-to-mid 90’s and touched 98 last night.
Great Falls 4, Billings 3
Ziznewski 3-5, K
Peter 0-2, 3 BB
Fisher 2-5, 2B, K (GW RBI)
Fish, Robbins, Jones 1 H each
Ball 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Great Falls walked off on Zac Fisher’s single in the bottom of the 9th. Peter, Ziznewski and Fisher are all hitting well over .300 so far for the Voyagers, the only Sox affiliate with a current winning record.
AZL White Sox 6, AZL Padres 4
Danner 2-3, 2B, BB
Alvarez 1-2, 2B, BB
Rodriguez 1-4, 2B, K
Adams 2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (4 hits were 1st 4 batters faced)
Brewster 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
Rodriguez 1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 5 WP, balk
Former Olympic speedskater and medalist Eddy Alvarez has had a nice start for AZL, going 4-11, 2 2B, 3B, BB, K. 2nd round pick Spencer Adams made his debut, gave up hits to the first 4 batters he faced, then threw 2 no-hit innings after with a couple strikeouts. Nerves probably at play there for the high schooler.
