Five White Sox affiliates played on the Fourth of July, including four at home for a fireworks display for their fans. Charlotte even had a new record crowd in their new ballpark. 10,539 fans came to BB&T Ballpark on Friday.

8,500 fans saw one of Recchia’s best starts of the year. He’s 25 and a bit of an unknown prospect-wise, but since earning a promotion to AA he hasn’t slowed down. In nine starts Recchia has a 2.83 ERA, 43 K, 14 BB in 47.2 IP. Pretty good stuff that makes you think he might have a chance.

Stone, 23, has dominated the Pioneer League since signing with the White Sox. He spent two years in the Marlins’ organization after being drafted in the 25th round in 2012. Even then he dominated rookie ball and had a brief, but impressive stint in the bullpen for Jupiter (High-A Florida State League). The following year he split time between the New York-Penn League (Short-season A) and the South Atlantic League (same Low-A league as Kannapolis). In 152.1 innings as a pro he has a 2.95 ERA with 167 K and 31 BB. Statistically he’s been very good, which doesn’t explain why he was pitching in indy ball at the start of this season. The Sox are using him as a starter after he made just one start when he was with the Marlins.
