All the White Sox affiliates returned to action aside from Charlotte who had their All-Star game Wednesday night. Josh Phegley was the Knights’ lone representative and he went 1-2 with a strikeout to help the International League top the Pacific Coast League.
Mississippi 8, Birmingham 4
The Barons had ten hits but only were able to push across four runs and the bullpen allowed six runs to score. Scott Snodgress pitched a shaky but effective game, throwing six innings, allowing two runs, four walks, and six hits. Trayce Thompson went 2-5 and Rangel Ravelo and Kevan Smith went 1-4.
Myrtle Beach 6, Winston-Salem 2
The Dash bats were mostly held in check by the Pelicans and Terance Marin struggled for the first time since his return to the organization. Marin struck out six batters over five innings, but allowed nine hits and four earned runs.
Augusta 3, Kannapolis 2
Brandon Brennan pitched six innings of one-hit ball in his Kannapolis debut, striking out six, walking three, and allowing a run. Brennan was recently promoted from Great Falls. Danny Hayes doubled and walked in his three at bats and Tyler Williams (Kenny Williams’ son) went 3-4 with a double.
Great Falls 9, Ogden 0
Starter Dane Stone and former catcher turned reliever Michael Blanke combined to throw a three hit shutout Wednesday night. Stone was especially brilliant, going eight innings, striking out six, and only allowing three hits and one walk. Catcher Zach Fisher provided all the offense Stone would need, going 3-5 with a home run.
AZL White Sox 3, AZL Mariners 2
2014 second round pick Spencer Adams pitched five innings, allowing two runs, striking out six, and only walking one. Adams ERA may not be sparkling (4.61), but he has 14 strikeouts and one walk in 13.2 innings this season which is very encouraging considering he came straight from high school ball. Marc Flores went 2-4 with a double and Jake Jarvis doubled in two runs to help the Sox scrape by the Mariners.
DSL White Sox 6, DSL Reds 1
The DSL White Sox cruised to an easy victory thanks to the strong starting pitching from Colombian 19 year-old Kevin Escorcia. Escorcia pitched five scoreless innings, only allowing three hits, no walks, and struck out nine. The lefty has now struck out 39 batters in his 31.1 innings pitched this season. Offensively, catcher Carlos Perez, DH Ylexander Villarroel, third basemen Maiker Feliz, and left fielder Hanleth Otano all had two hits.
