The White Sox affiliates went 4-2 last night, highlighted by Great Falls clinching a playoff berth with their win. Andy Wilkins and Jake Peter continue to have hot bats, Micker Adolfo had a big day at the plate and Spencer Adams struck out nine batters in four innings.
Charlotte 8, Indianapolis 3
Andy Wilkins continues his torrid hitting, going 3-for-5 with 2 doubles. That’s after he won the International League Hitter of the Week award, hitting .647 (!!!) with 5 home runs for that week. Micah Johnson and Michael Taylor also had three hits each, and Jordan Danks hit his 14th home run.
Birmingham 9, Jacksonville 5
LHP Scott Snodgress had a disappointing 2013 and a slow start to 2014, but he’s been slowly improving and had a nice outing in this one: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. Braulio Ortiz continues to struggle mightily in AA, with his ERA ballooning to 16.20 and walking 9 batters so far in just 5 innings. On the hitting side, Jeremy Farrell had three hits and Rangel Ravelo went 1-2 with a double and two walks. Dan Wagner hit his second homer.
Frederick 6, Winston-Salem 3
Terance Marin, who made a very nice comeback to the organization, had his second straight rough outing since his return giving up 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings. Jacob May, Jason Coats, Omar Narvaez and Cleuluis Rondon collected 2 hits each. All 10 of the Dash’s hits were singles, but Jacob May stole his 36th base (in 42 attempts).
Great Falls 12, Idaho Falls 8
The Voyagers won a barn-burner to clinch the 1st half division title and earn a playoff berth (this will be their 8th straight season to make the playoffs). Catcher Dillon Haupt hit a grand slam to cap the win, and he’s hitting .316 on the season. Jake Peter collected another 2 hits and is still batting well over .400, looking primed for a promotion to A ball. On the pitching side, Great Falls burned through five pitchers, with 2014 3rd rounder Jace Fry faring the best (1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K).
AZL White Sox 14, AZL Giants 6
2014 2nd round pick Spencer Adams gave up 2 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings, but he also struck out a whopping 9 batters with just 1 walk. So far on the season he’s got 23 punch-outs against only 2 walks in 17.2 IP. Micker Adolfo continues to show some power, hitting his 3rd home run and adding a double on his 3-hit day. Olympian Eddy Alvarez and Dominican Antonio Rodriguez also had three hits each in AZL’s thrashing of the Giants. Catcher Ryan Plourde had his first pro at-bat and did well with his one chance, hitting a triple.
DSL Twins 10, DSL White Sox 1
Not much positive to report from this one. Outfielder Hanleth Otano, one of the key prospects to watch on the DSL squad, had a pair of doubles in 3 at bats.
