On a night when hot-hitting Andy Wilkins went “just” 1-4, his teammates Jordan Danks and Josh Phegley picked him up with big nights. Jordan Danks went 3-4 with a walk and is hitting .410/.479/.667 over his last ten games. Josh Phegley went 2-5 with a home run and extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Over the course of his streak, he’s hitting a robust .467 with four doubles, two triples, five homers, and twenty runs batted in.
Jacksonville 7, Birmingham 6
Chris Beck pitched seven shutout innings and left with a 3-0 lead that was blown by his bullpen. Beck struck out one, walked one, and allowed four hits. Rangel Ravelo doubled twice and Kevan Smith went 3-5 with a double to pace the Baron’s offensive attack.
Potomac 9, Winston-Salem 6
J.B. Wendelken started and struggled through four innings, thanks in large part to the shaky defense behind him. Wendelken allowed four runs, but only two earned, and struck out five batters. Catcher Mike Marjama went 2-5 and slammed his third home run on the season and Courtney Hawkins added two singles. Advanced defensive shortshop Cleuluis Rondon was putting up weak hitting numbers in Kannapolis when a Tim Anderson injury forced his promotion. However, he has defied the odds thus far, hitting a respectable .270/.308/.392 in his time with the Dash.
Hagerstown 5, Kannapolis 4
The Intimidators dropped a 13 inning affair but were kept in the game thanks to a strong relief effort from Ben Brewster and Brad Salgado. Brewster and Salgado relieved starter Thad Lowry and held the Suns to one run over the remaining seven frames. Brewster was especially impressive, pitching three scoreless innings, striking out three, and only allowing one hit. Adam Engel went 2-5 with a double and a walk and is hitting .383/.453/.723 in his his last ten contests.
Great Falls 11, Helena 1
Mason Robbins, Jake Peter, Zach Fisher, and Chevy Clarke combined for ten hits as the Voyagers blew out the Helena Brewers. Mason Robbins homered for the second consecutive game and Chevy Clarke went 2-2 with two doubles, three walks, and two stolen bases. Zach Fisher went 3-5 and is hitting .579/.614/.974 over his last ten games.
AZL White Sox 5, AZL Dodgers 4
The Arizona League White Sox pitchers combined to strike out 17 batters over their 11 inning victory. Starter Victor Done struck out eight over his 4.2 innings of work and Lucas Shearrow relieved him and struck out four over his 2.1 innings. Catcher Ryan Plourde went 3-4 with a walk and 18 year-old shortshop Johan Cruz went 1-4 with a double.
