A pair of doubleheaders meant there were eight games Sunday. White Sox affiliates went 7-1 on the day, and the only loss was the completion of a suspended game from last night for Charlotte. They already trailed entering Sunday. James Dykstra and Spencer Adams had excellent starts to highlight the day’s action.
Louisville 5, Knights 0 (7 innings)
Andy Wilkins 2-3, K
This was the completion of a game from yesterday. Andy Wilkins stayed hot, but the rest of the offense didn’t do much else. Charlotte had five hits, all singles, and David Cales gave up four runs in four innings.
Knights 6, Louisville 4 (7 innings)
Carlos Sanchez 2-4, grand slam
Erik Johnson 5 IP, 3 R, 1 K, 4 BB, 8 H
Sanchez’s sixth home run of the season gave the Knights an early lead they would not relinquish. He had five RBIs on the night. Marcus Semien had two hits, including a double. Erik Johnson continues to post weird, confounding numbers.
Barons 6, Tennessee 5
Trayce Thompson and Rangel Ravelo had two hits each. Michael Recchia had a mediocre start (5 IP, 3 R, 3 BB, 4 H).
Dash 6, Wilmington 1
James Dykstra 8 IP, R, 8 K, BB, 5 H
Dykstra has had a great season and has been one of the breakout stars of the system this season. Last year’s sixth rounder had a 2.64 ERA with 82 K and 10 BB in 99 IP for Kannapolis to earn a promotion. He’s arguably been better with Winston-Salem in three starts now: 20.2 IP, 3.05 ERA, 20 K, 1 BB, 21 hits. He’s 23 so it’s good to see him doing well in A ball and moving quickly. If he stays on this track, he would have a good chance to start 2015 in AA and if he does well there he’s a legitimately solid prospect (a couple ifs in there, but you get the point).
Jacob May, Cleuluis Rondon, Keon Barnum each had two hits and Grant Buckner had three, including a home run.
Intimidators 7, Lakewood 3 (7 innings)
Jeffrey McKenzie 7 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, 5 H
This was game one of a doubleheader. Kannapolis was opportunistic with seven runs on nine hits with just one extra base hit.
Intimidators 6, Lakewood 3 (game 2)
Danny Hayes homered for the ninth time, Trey Michalczewski had two hits and a walk for his second two-hit game in three after a bit of a slump and Brett Austin had two hits and a double to stay hot.
Billings 6, Voyagers 4
Zach Fish 3-4, 2 2B, HR #2
Fish, a rookie outfielder from Oklahoma State, didn’t homer in his first 25 professional games and now has bombs in two straight.
Arizona White Sox 11, Mariners 2
Spencer Adams 5 IP, R, 8 K, 0 BB, 3 H
This matched Adams’ longest start of the season. He has 31 K against just 2 BB in 22.2 IP.
