The White Sox affiliates were led by strong starting pitching across the board during Sunday’s games. Tyler Danish highlighted the action and Carlos Rodon had a successful relief appearance.
Gwinnett 5, Charlotte 4
Chris Beck had a quality start; throwing seven innings, striking out five, walking none, and allowing three earned runs. However, it was not enough as the Braves nipped the Knights. Rehabbing Avisail Garcia was hit by a pitch and exited the game, but after a post-game exam it was revealed he has a bruised left tricep and should be considered day-to-day. Matt Tuiasosopo paced the Knights offense by going 3-4 with a home run and hot-hitting Michael Taylor went 1-3 with a walk.
Chattanooga 4, Birmingham 3 (11 innings)
Chris Bassitt allowed two runs over six strong innings but Nestor Molina blew an 11th inning save opportunity. Dan Black and Kevan Smith went 2-4 and Black hit his 10th home run of the season in the loss.
Winston-Salem 5, Lynchburg 1
Jason Coats and Cleuluis Rondon tripled and Courtney Hawkins went 2-4 with a double but the real story of this game was the Dash’s dominant pitching. Tyler Danish spun another gem of a start, going six innings, only allowing two hits, no runs, two walks, and striking out eight. He was relieved by Sox #1 prospect Carlos Rodon, who struck out two over his two scoreless innings of work. Danish has been especially impressive lately, in his last ten starts the righty has a 1.38 ERA over 52.1 innings. During those 52.1 innings, Danish has only walked 13 and struck out 49.
Kannapolis 10, Augusta 5
Chris Freudenberg won his debut with the Intimidators by hurling six innings of one-run ball, and the Kannapolis offense took care of the rest by knocking out ten runs on thirteen hits. Christian Stringer had three hits and Trey Michalczewski, Danny Hayes, and Carl Thomore had two hits a piece.
AZL White Sox 3, AZL Dodgers 2
The Arizona League White Sox faced Dodgers 2014 first round draft pick Grant Holmes but were able to hand him the loss, winning a close contest. White Sox starter Kelvis Valerio went seven innings, only allowing two runs, five hits, walking none, and striking out seven. Louis Silverio went 2-4 with a double and Blair Moore went 3-3 with a triple to lead the Sox to victory.
