The Sox affiliates were nearly swept but were saved by an Arizona League Sox victory. Carlos Rodon made his first professional start and Josh Phegley had himself a monster night.
Pawtucket 8, Charlotte 6
Erik Johnson posted a quality start and Josh Phegley hit two home runs but the Knight’s bullpen blew the game. Johnson allowed three earned runs over six innings, walking two, and striking out five. Josh Phegley launched his 19th and 20th home runs of the season and has gone 9-12 over his past three games with three homers, three doubles, two walks, and thirteen RBI’s. Matt Davidson went 2-4 and Avisail Garcia went 1-4 in the losing effort.
Huntsville 6, Birmingham 3 (11 innings)
Starter Mike Recchia allowed two runs over six innings of work, striking out four and only walking one. The middle of the Baron’s order was solid, Dan Black, Rangel Ravelo, and Kevan Smith all had two hits and Smith hit his 9th home run.
Potomac 6, Winston-Salem 4
Carlos Rondon’s first professional start was a success, as he tossed three scoreless innings and punched out three batters. Offensively, Jacob May went 3-5 with a double and Cleuluis Rondon, Jason Coats, and Keon Barnum had two hits a piece.
Hagerstown 8, Kannapolis 1
Adam Engel went 2-4, Danny Hayes blasted his 11th homer, and Brett Austin doubled in an otherwise unspectacular loss for the Intimidators.
Orem 3, Great Falls 1
The Voyogers only allowed three hits but fell to the Orem Owlz Thursday. Reliever Devon Davis and Connor Walsh combined to throw four no-hit innings after starter Brian departed.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Reds 3
Eight of the nine Sox hitters collected a hit and Eddy Alvarez and Micker Adolfo had two a piece to led the Arizona White Sox past the Reds.
