Gwinnett 16, Charlotte 2
It was a rough day for the Knights, as they learned they lost Micah Johnson for the rest of the season to a hamstring injury and were obliterated by the Gwinnett Braves. The day after being interviewed by Futuresox.com, Chris Beck was lit up for five runs on four walks and four hits in just two-thirds of an inning. The lone bright spot was Matt Tuiasosopo, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk.
Birmingham 4, Chattanooga 1
Chris Bassitt continues to dominate AA, he threw seven innings, striking out nine, and allowing only one run on four hits. In Bassitt’s five starts with the Barons, he has a 0.87 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 31 innings. Chris Curley and Dan Black went 2-4 with two RBI’s respectively to provide Bassitt and the Barons all the runs they would need.
Winston-Salem 9, Salem 4
The Dash blasted the Salem Red Sox and pulled within one game of the final playoff spot in the Carolina League. The Dash offense pounded out 16 hits, highlighted by home runs by Courtney Hawkins and Nick Basto. Cleuluis Rondon went 3-4 with a triple, which was his fourth triple with the Dash in 44 games after not registering one in 77 games with the Intimidators. 2014 draft pick Jake Peter went 2-4 with two doubles and a walk, and emerging catching prospect Omar Narvaez went 2-3 with a double and a walk.
Asheville 8, Kannapolis 6
2014 draft pick Ryan Leonards was drafted as a 3B, but has played the majority of his games at SS thus far. After excelling at Great Falls, the Sox promoted him to Kannapolis where he has been holding his own. Leonards led the Intimidators last night by going 3-4 with two doubles and a stolen base. Thad Lowry started the game and gave up all eight runs, but Andrew Mitchell had a clean relief outing, pitching three scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four.
AZL Padres 6, AZL White Sox 2
Rehabbing Tim Anderson hit his second home run in as many games last night, which is a good sign that he is feeling good in his healed wrist. C/DH Jose Barraza also homered, it was his fourth of the year. That was all the offense the Arizona League White Sox could muster however, as they fell to the Padres.
