White Sox Winter Leagues Preview: Puerto Rico

UPDATED 11/5 to reflect change in status for Adam Lopez
This is the last in our series of winter league previews. You can see our pieces covering White Sox prospects playing in Venezuela, Australia and the Dominican Republic as well.
The Sox have not sent a lot of players to the Liga de Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente in the past few years, and this year is no exception. Just three minor leaguers, all pitchers, appear on rosters for teams in Puerto Rico, who started play on October 30th. Their regular season ends in early January. Here’s a quick look at who is there for the White Sox…
INDIOS DE MAYAGUEZ
Lefty Nelvin Fuentes spent his age 25 season between AA and AAA Charlotte this year, as part of a parade of arms the White Sox hope to turn into major league bullpen help. After struggling in Charlotte, Fuentes was demoted to Birmingham and did substantially better. He’s looking to stay sharp and vie for another shot at AAA in 2015.
Right-hander Adam Lopez is on the Mayaguez roster, but listed as a reserve. Lopez recently told us he won’t be pitching down there this year though (updated 11/5).
CANGREJEROS DE SANTURCE
The White Sox acquired Miguel Chalas in the Alejandro De Aza trade this past summer, as part of their house cleaning moves. The right-hander is purely a reliever, and likely ends up with AA Birmingham in 2015 as a 23 year old. You can get a little more detail on Chalas in the article at that link.
