Charlotte 10, Toledo 4
Matt Davidson, oh my. The slugging third baseman went 3-5 with a homer, two doubles, six RBIs and no strikeouts. His average is now sitting at .261 and we might be one step closer to seeing the Matt Davidson that Rick Hahn was willing to trade Addison Reed for. Neftali Soto also chipped in three hits and two RBIs while Leury Garcia and Carlos Sanchez continued to be excellent table setters for Davidson and Soto, as both Garcia and Sanchez had two hits, Garcia with a double and Sanchez with a walk as well. The duo each snagged a stolen base, Garcia’s 9th and Sanchez’s 3rd. On the pitching side Erik Johnson is continuing his come back tour with three earned runs in 5.2 innings and six strikeout. He pitched five very strong innings until hitting a wall in the 6th, but that was partially due to an error that wiped out what should have been a DP. Jairo Asencio locked down the end of the game with two shutout innings complimented by four strikeouts.
Birmingham 2, Jacksonville 1
The Barons were lifted to victory by Jeremy Farrell‘s two run homer in the 7th inning. It was Farrell’s lone hit as he drove in Christian Marrero. Jacob May and Tim Anderson continued to set the table atop the order, May with two hits and Anderson with one. All that considered, this game belonged to starter Tyler Danish as the righty pitched six strong innings of one run ball while striking out six. Raul Fernandez shut the door in the 9th inning by striking out the side to rack up the save.
Winston-Salem 6, Potomac 3
Chris Jacobs led the Dash to victory with a three run homer as the DH went 3-3 on the day. Trey Michalczewski and Keenyn Walker also contributed their own RBIs as each went 1-4, Trey with a triple. Jace Fry went seven strong innings of four-hit ball, only allowing two earned runs and striking out four. Andre Wheeler closed the game out as he pitched two innings and gave up a run, hit, and a walk while striking out one.
Greenville 11, Kannapolis 6
The Intimidators offense came to play, but sadly the pitching (and defense) was overwhelmed. Eddy Alvarez and Christian Stringer each went 2-5 with a double, Michael Suiter went 3-5 and Louie Lechich went 2-3 with a walk. Suiter, Stringer, Chris Curley, Lechich and Mason Robbins all had RBIs. Starter Spencer Adams only went 1.2 innings, giving up six runs (one earned) while striking out two as the defense fell apart behind him. Brett Bruening then came in and despite striking out three batters in 2.1 innings, allowed four earned runs. It was a rough day as Kannapolis denied the Sox organization a 4-0 day, but positives can definitely be drawn from Alvarez’ hot start to his sophomore campaign.
