The White Sox affiliates won three of four Thursday night in tightly contested ball games decided by two runs or less.
Charlotte 8, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 7
Matt Davidson‘s resurrection tour continues as he was the hero on Thursday night, as he blasted a walk-off home run to win the game for the Knights (which was the second of a back-to-back with Neftali Soto). The homer was Davidson’s second in as many games and he is now hitting a robust .260/.325/.534 on the young season. Kyle Drabek started the game and struggled through four innings, giving up six runs on five hits and four walks. However, the Charlotte bullpen was strong in relief, with a combination of Jarrett Casey, Javy Guerra, and Eric Surkamp allowing one run over the remaining five innings. Carlos Sanchez and Trayce Thompson contributed two hits apiece, and Neftali Soto went 3-5 with that home run.
Birmingham 5, Tennessee 3
Starter Junior Guerra had a fantastic start, throwing seven innings while only allowing one run and striking out nine. Frank Montas’ absence is still a mystery, and between him and Recchia the team is apparently down two SPs but has yet to make a roster move. Outfielder Christian Marrero led the Barons offense, going 3-4 with a double. Courtney Hawkins and Tim Anderson each went 1-4, and minor league veteran Marcus Lemon went 2-3.
Potomac 5, Winston-Salem 4
A 9th inning Winston-Salem rally fell short, as the Dash were defeated by the Nationals on Thursday. Starter Robinson Leyer gave up two runs (one earned) over five innings, scattering six hits and three walks. Lead-off man Adam Engel went 2-4 with a double, raising his season average to a team best .316. Defensively gifted shortshop Cleuluis Rodon went 2-4 with a RBI and Keenyn Walker went 1-3 with a walk.
Kannapolis 6, Greenville 5
Intimidators starter Yelmison Peralta could only last 3.1 innings, but his bullpen was strong in relief to seal the win. Peralta gave up three runs on five hits and three walks before departing for Devon Davis, who allowed one run over 2.2 innings of work. Jacob Morris pitched two scoreless innings and David Trexler was able to work around a run to secure the save. Chris Curley hit a three run home run and second baseman Christian Stringer went 3-4 with a double and a triple to pace the Intimidator’s offensive attack.
