Scranton/WB 6, Charlotte 5
Brad Penny was roughed up and took the loss Sunday, giving up five runs, nine hits, and walking two. The Charlotte bullpen kept the Knights in the game, Eric Surkamp struck out five over three innings while giving up one run and Jarrett Casey pitched two scoreless frames. Carlos Sanchez, coming into the game 9-9 over his past two games, went 2-5 with a double and is now hitting .407/.432/.582. Trayce Thompson went 3-3 with a walk to raise his season average to .326. Jason Coats and Jeremy Dowdy both collected two hits but the Knights fell a bit short in their comeback bid.
Tennessee 3, Birmingham 0
Top prospect Frankie Montas made his first start since April 20th after being away from the team for an unspecified reason. Montas pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out four, walked one, and allowed four hits. Onelki Garcia and Nolan Sanburn made scoreless relief appearances, but the Barons offense could not muster any offense. Tim Anderson and Jacob May both singled and Jeremy Ferrell went 2-4.
Wilmington 4, Winston-Salem 1
James Dykstra entered Sunday’s game having only given up two earned runs on the season. He unfortunately equaled that total in his start, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk over five innings. Jose Brito and Andre Wheeler relieved Dykstra and combined to pitch three scoreless innings. The Dash offense could only manage four hits, with Keon Barnum provided the highlight with a double in his four at bats.
Rome 6, Kannapolis 5
A four run 9th inning rally fell just short, as the Intimidators were nipped by the Rome Braves. Yency Almonte had a decent start, going six innings and only allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six. However, reliever Kelvis Valerio gave up three late runs which doomed the Intimidators. Eddy Alvarez went 1-4 with a three run double and Michael Suiter went 2-5.
