White Sox Minor League Recap 5/13/2015: Who is Junior Guerra?

Jr Guerra Italy
Aside from another walk-off in Charlotte, it was a mostly ho-hum day on the farm. But that Knights game was pretty fun…
Charlotte 5, Louisville 4
The Knights grabbed yet another walk-off win, this one on a Kevan Smith single in the 10th, on their way to their fifth straight victory. Junior Guerra has been raising his profile enough this year that it might be time to look at him as a prospect, despite being 30 years old. After playing in Italy last year, not only has Guerra cruised through AA and AAA so far this year, he’s got a mid-90s fastball even when working as a starter and a mid-80s change of pace that has drawn some raves. In this game he booked this: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 7:0 GO:FO. The offense was primarily driven by org guys like Matt Tuiasosopo (2-4, 2B, BB, K) and Neftali Soto (2-3, BB). Daniel Webb continues to struggle with control, and he walked three batters in one inning.
Chattanooga 3, Birmingham 0
The Barons’ offense continues to scuffle, as they were shut out again. Jacob May went 1-3 with a walk and a his 14th stolen base, and the only other hit was a Joey DeMichele single. Facing high end prospect Jose Berrios will do that. On the pitching side, Myles Jaye gave up three earned on 4 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings, striking out 3.
Salem 8, Winston-Salem 2
Andre Wheeler struggled in a spot start, giving up six runs on four hits in just 1.2 innings. But the whole story takes some of the blame off Andre who only gave up one earned run. The second inning for Salem featured an error, a passed ball, a wild pitch (by reliever Euclides Leyer making his 2015 debut) and an infield hit as they sent 11 men to the plate. Offensively, Trey Michalczewski hit two doubles in four plate appearances (with a K), as he continues to improve at the plate. Speedsters Keenyn Walker and Adam Engel each had a single, and each was caught stealing.
Kannapolis was off.
