Charlotte 2, Syracuse 1
In Micah Johnson‘s second game in Charlotte following his controversial demotion, Johnson showed exactly why the White Sox are still bullish on his abilities. Johnson took the first pitch of the ballgame deep for his first home run, then later walked and stole a base, and ended the day with a walk-off game winning double. Starter Kyle Drabek, who also started the year with the White Sox, took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and finished having only allowed one run on two hits. Drabek has been dominant over his past 17 innings, only allowing two runs and five hits during that span. Eric Surkamp relieved Drabek and pitched three perfect innings to earn the win for the Knights.
Birmingham 10, Mobile 9
The Barons won a slugfest over the Mobile MayBears thanks to a career day from shortstop Tim Anderson. Anderson went 5-6 with two doubles and two steals and has been on fire recently, hitting .378 over his past ten games. Courtney Hawkins went 2-5 with a double and a walk and Christian Marrero went 3-3 with a double and two walks to propel the Barons to the victory. Starter Tony Bucciferro could only last 3.1 innings but the Birmingham bullpen combination of Kyle Hansen, Onelki Garcia, and Cody Winiarski only allowed one run over the remaining 5.2 frames.
Salem 4, Winston-Salem 0
The Dash were shutout and two-hit by the Salem Red Sox on Saturday. Winston-Salem starer Jake Cose was the tough luck loser, pitching six strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk, striking out five. Cleuluis Rondon went 1-3 and Trey Michalczewski walked.
Lakewood 9, Kannapolis 7
Outfielder Michael Suiter hit a clutch pitch hit three run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th, but it wasn’t enough as the Lakewood BlueClaws rallied in the 9th to take the back and forth contest. Spencer Adams started the game and did not have his best stuff, as he gave up five runs (four earned) on ten hits. However, Adams battled and pitched five innings, striking out two and did not walk a batter. Adams has an ugly ERA (5.55), but his command has been impeccable, only allowing three walks over his 24.1 innings pitched. Shortstop Eddy Alvarez went 1-3 with two walks and a stolen base, the stolen base was his 11th on the season and the two walks gives him the most free passes in the South Atlantic League.
