Charlotte 2, Lehigh Valley 0
The Knights pitchers absolutely dominated the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs on Sunday, only allowing three singles and one walk. Starter Scott Carroll, making his first appearance since being optioned by the White Sox on Thursday, threw five scoreless innings, striking out three while only allowing one hit and no walks. Miguel Chalas relieved Carroll and threw two scoreless innings in his Charlotte debut since his promotion from Birmingham. The 22 year-old Chalas, who was acquired last August in the De Aza trade, has a 1.88 ERA on the season. Maikel Cleto and Zach Phillips came on after Chalas and both pitched a perfect inning to complete the three-hit shutout. Micah Johnson went 1-3 with a walk and is hitting .286/.380/.405 with three stolen bases with the Knights since his controversial demotion from the big league club. Matt Davidson went 2-4 with a double and Jason Coats went 1-4 with a RBI.
Birmingham 6, Jacksonville 5 (11 innings)
The Barons won via a walk-off hit for the second consecutive day against the Jacksonville Suns. Marcus Lemon was the hero, delivering the game winning single in the bottom of the 11th to drive in Joey DeMichele. Tim Anderson had a monster game, going 4-5 at the plate and was a terror on the bath paths, stealing three bases. Anderson is now hitting .311/.329/.403 on the season with 19 stolen bases. Tyler Danish started the game and uncharacteristically struggled with his command, walking seven batters in his 6.2 innings. Coming into the game, Danish had only allowed 11 walks all season. However, Danish was able to mostly pitch around his mistakes, only allowing three runs to score.
Salem 6, Winston-Salem 5
The Dash lost starter Jace Fry just four batters into the game, when he called for the trainers and had to be taken out of the game. The severity of Fry’s injury is not immediately known, but it will be reported via the FutureSox twitter as soon as we hear any word. Euclides Leyer came in for Fry and pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three walks and one hit. Brad Goldberg pitched four strong innings in his longest outing of the year, only allowing one run. Trey Michalczewski went 1-4 with a triple and Keenyn Walker went 2-4 but it was not enough as the Dash fell just short.
Kannapolis 7, Hagerstown 5
Starter Yency Almonte allowed five runs over his five innings of work, but the Intimidators bullpen was lights out to preserve the win. David Trexler pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Jefferson Olacio pitched a perfect 9th to earn the save. Catcher Brett Austin went 2-4 and outfielder Michael Danner cleared the bases with a three run double in the 4th to give the Intimidators the victory. Danner, a 2014 34th round draft pick, is hitting .323/.432/.516 on the season.
