The Knights snapped a seven game winning streak in a low-scoring affair with the Syracuse Chiefs. Matt Davidson – whose significant strikeout rate (32.6K%) should temper those fans clamoring for a promotion – went 0-4 with four strikeouts against unremarkable pitchers. Trayce Thompson, however, might be seeing a promotion soon. The 24-year-old has cut his K% and raised his ISO (a little above .200) by more than 22 points since last season. He had a base-knock in three ABs, a walk, and struck out once. Jason Coats, Thompson’s outfield counterpart, had a multi-hit game and struck out once. Tyler Colvin had the only XBH of the game – a double, his ninth of the season for the Knights.
Miguel Chalas worked in relief and went two innings, allowing two hits, an earned run, no walks, while striking out two. His ERA stands at 5.27 in a little over 13 IP for the Knights with a 15.1 K-BB%. This, after the 22-year-old Chalas dominated AA to the tune of a .163 AVG against and a 15.2 K-BB% in 26.2IP.
Great Falls rode a seven-run ninth inning en route to their second victory of the young season. Known for his glove, 20-year-old shortstop Victor Velasquez – signed out of Venezuela for $120,000 in 2011 – had four hits (one double) in four ABs for the Voyagers. Jake Jarvis – last year’s 10th round draft pick – had a hit, a walk, a run scored, and two RBIs in four ABs. Antonio Rodriguez went 2-5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Johan Cruz went 1-4 with two runs scored.
