While most of the affiliates are enjoying the All-Star break, The Charlotte Knights, Great Falls Voyagers, and the Dominican Summer League White Sox were in action on Wednesday. The Birmingham Barons, Winston-Salem Dash, Kannapolis Intimidators, and Arizona League White Sox will be back on Thursday.
Charlotte 2, Syracuse 0 (10 innings)
Starter Terance Marin threw seven shutout innings and is building himself quite a Cinderella story. Marin went undrafted out of junior college and was signed by the White Sox in 2010 as a free agent. Last season he was cut by the Sox and had a brief stint in independent ball before being resigned by the Sox later that year. This season Marin was loaned to the Tijuana Toros of the Mexican League, where he pitched 47.1 innings for the Toros before finally rejoining the Charlotte Knights in June. Since becoming a Knight, Marin has now thrown 22 scoreless inning and only allowed 15 hits and 3 walks. FutureSox will have more on Terance Marin’s incredible story later, but back to Wednesday’s game.
After Marin departed, former White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom threw two scoreless innings and a Jason Coats two run double made Lindstrom a winner. Reliever Maikel Cleto pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the save.
Great Falls 3, Billings 2
The Great Falls Voyagers survived a 9th inning rally by the Billings Mustangs to hang on to the victory. Starter Brannon Easterling threw seven scoreless innings, striking out four while only allowing three hits and one walk. Antonio Rodriguez led the offense by going 2-4 with two RBI’s and a stolen base. Rodriguez is off to a great start thus far, hitting .360/.429/.520. Second baseman Jake Jarvis went 1-3 with a double and Johan Cruz went 1-3 with a walk.
DSL Orioles 10, DSL White Sox 5
17 year-old starter Edinxon Arias pitched three innings of one run ball, but it all went downhill for the Sox pitchers after he departed. Offensively the Sox pounded out 12 hits, including three from center fielder Droherlin Mejia, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the pitching woes.
