All of the White Sox affiliates were in action as teams were beginning their 2nd half of the season from the All-Star break. The full-season Sox affiliates swept the day, with only the rookie teams falling.
Charlotte 4, Syracuse 2
Starter Kyle Drabek continues to impress, the former top Blue Jay prospect went six innings, allowing just one run on five hits and one walk. “Lieutenant” Dan Jennings came on in relief of Drabek and pitched two innings, allowing one run and struck out three. Jennings is on a rehab assignment with the Knights. Micah Johnson went 1-4 with his 13th stolen base and Jason Coats went 1-4 with an RBI double. Catcher George Kottaras just keeps producing with the bat, he blasted his 5th home run of the season in the 4th inning. Onelki Garcia came on and pitched a perfect 9th inning for the save and lowered his ERA with the Knights to 2.35.
Birmingham 13, Jackson 0
The Barons annihilated the Jackson Generals on Thursday thanks to a balanced attack. Starter Myles Jaye threw seven shutout innings and only allowed six hits and one walk in the process. The 23 year old Jaye, who was roughed up a bit in Birmingham last season, now has a 2.93 ERA this season and has only allowed 66 hits over his 76.2 innings. Third baseman Nick Delmonico, who was playing in his first game with the Barons fresh off his promotion from Kannapolis, went 3-5 with a double. Courtney Hawkins went 2-5 with a double and Tim Anderson went 1-5 with a triple.
Winston-Salem 5, Lynchburg 4
The Dash jumped out to an early lead thanks to five runs over the first two frames and were able to hang on for the victory. Starter Jordan Guerrero pitched into the 9th inning as he went 8.1 innings, striking out seven, and allowed four runs on four hits and a walk. Guerrero was early perfect from innings 2 through 8. Trey Michalczewski, who has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries, went 2-4 with a double. Catcher Omar Narvaez and Keon Barnum also went 2-4 and Adam Engel drew two walks.
Kannapolis 9, Asheville 8
The Intimidators erased a three run deficit in the bottom of the 9th inning that culminated with a walk-off two run double by Brett Austin to earn a wild win. The offense was clicking thanks to table-setters Eddy Alvarez and Hunter Jones, who combined for four steals and four runs. Jones was especially great, going 2-3 with two walks to raise his season average to .355/.455/.382. First baseman Alexander Simon went 2-4 with four RBI’s and a walk. Starter Yelmison Peralta pitched six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.
Billings 7, Great Falls 2
Voyagers starter Evin Einhardt threw six dominant innings, allowing zero runs and zero walks and only three hits. Unfortunately he was betrayed by a bullpen meltdown, as Tanner Mendonca and Danny Dopico combined to allow seven runs. International signee Antonio Rodriguez continues to hit, as he went 2-4 and raised his season average to .379. 2015 8th round draft pick Casey Schroeder went 2-4 with a walk and a stolen base. Schroeder, a switch-hitting catcher, has been very impressive thus far, hitting .333/.409/.500.
AZL Diamondbacks 15, AZL White Sox 5
The Arizona League White Sox pitching was simply overwhelmed by the Diamondbacks, giving up fifteen runs on fifteen hits and seven walks. Outfielder Micker Adolfo went 1-5 with two strikeouts and catcher Seby Zavala went 2-4 with two doubles. First baseman Cody Daily, who the White Sox signed as a free agent, hit his second home run of the young season in a 2-4 effort. Daily already has four doubles and two home runs over his 21 at bats with the AZL Sox.
DSL White Sox 6, DSL Blue Jays 3
The DSL White Sox took a sloppy game from the DSL Blue Jays as the teams combined for five errors.
