Gwinnett 11, Charlotte 4
The Knights put 15 hits on the board, but couldn’t muster more than four runs. Miguel Chalas and Jarrett Casey combined to give up 10 earned runs in the first six innings. Micah Johnson was 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Matt Davidson had an RBI double, Chris Marrero was 4-4 with a double and homer and Kevan Smith was 2-4.
Charlotte 11, Gwinnett 2
The Knights offense responded to game one of the doubleheader with 11 runs of their own in the second game. Tyler Saladino went 3-5 with a double and three RBIs, George Kottaras hit his 7th homer after going 2-4. Tyler Colvin had a three RBIs off his second home run and Trayce Thompson also sent a ball over the wall for his 10th homer.
Starter Brad Penny threw a complete game, only allowing two earned runs off of five hits and one walk. He didn’t strike anyone out, but he threw only 87 pitches en route to his complete game.
Birmingham 3, Chattanooga 1
Myles Jaye shut down the Lookouts with six innings of no run ball in the seven-inning game. Jaye struck out three, walked three and allowed three hits on his way to victory. Danny Hayes gave him two RBIs after going 2-4. Rob Brantly had the other RBI after going 2-3 with a double.
Birmingham 6, Chattanooga 1
The pitchers in Birmingham came threw a gem with no starter. Tim Crabbe, Tyler Barnette, Devin Harris and J.B. Wendelken threw seven innings of one run ball, with Crabbe recording three strikeouts in 2 innings and Wendelken striking out four with no hits in 2.2 innings as he notched the win.
Danny Hayes and Adrian Nieto each had two hits, Nieto included a double, and two RBIs. Nick Delmonico continues to hit as he went 2-3 with an RBI double. Christian Marrero went 3-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Winston-Salem 2, Carolina 1
Jake Peter continued his hot streak by going 2-4 with a double and run scored. Keon Barnum went 1-4 with an RBI double and Tyler Williams was able to knock in Toby Thomas on an RBI double. Robinson Leyer went seven strong innings of four hit ball, allowing three walks while striking out six.
Kannapolis 3, West Virginia 0
Nick Basto went 1-2 with two RBIs off of a double and sacrifice fly while Michael Danner had the only other RBI, also off of a sac fly. Louie Lechich went 1-3 with a double and Mason Robbins was also 1-3.
Luis Martinez didn’t need any more run support as he went six innings of shutout ball and had no walks to two strikeouts.
Missoula 9, Great Falls 7
Mike Gomez had a rough night, squandering a 7-3 lead in the eighth inning. Starter Brannon Easterling went six innings and only allowed to runs while striking out four.
The offense showed up with three RBI’s from Nick Parent, who provided the team with two homers. Jackson Glines contributed his second double of the year and Antonio Rodriguez went 2-4 with two RBIs off of a home run and a double. Jake Jarvis also contributed a solo shot of his own.
AZL White Sox 9, AZL Giants 7
The AZL White Sox offense came to play with Bradley Strong leading the way by going 3-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Mick Adolfo went 2-5 with a run scored an an RBI. Daniel Gonzalez went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Felix Mercedes rounded out the offense with a 2-3 showing with a walk.
On the pitching side Jesse Crain threw a perfect first inning before Christopher Comito allowed five runs – only two earned. Ryan Riga and Jack Charleston were able to shut down the Giants for four innings after Comito to set Alex Katz up for the save.
DSL D-backs 6, DSL White Sox 3
The DSL White Sox committed three errors to get their 17th loss on the year.
