Charlotte 5, Gwinnett 1
Shawn Haviland went six innings of shut out baseball to give the Knights plenty of room to succeed on the Fourth of July and the offense responded accordingly. Matt Tuiasosopo had three of the team’s six hits, but four RBIs and had a home run in this game. Matt Davidson went 0-1, but had three walks against a good opposing pitcher in Mike Foltynewicz. Tyler Colvin had the other RBI for the Knights as he went 1-4.
Birmingham 4, Tennessee 1
The Barons came out on top in the AA edition of the crosstown rivalry. Courtney Hawkins went yard and walked twice with two RBIs, Tim Anderson chipped in a double and Nick Delmonico continues to rake after going 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Frankie Montas shut down the Smokies with six strong innings where he struck out six batters and only walked one.
Winston-Salem 6, Frederick 5
The top of the Dash order went on a hit parade as Adam Engel and Jake Peter combined for five hits and three walks atop the order. They each scored two runs. Trey Michalczewski went hitless but walked four times and Keon Barnum went 2-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs to propel the Dash past the Keys. Starter Matt Heidenreich went five innings and only allowed three runs while striking out five. Michael Ynoa pitched two scoreless innings of relief where he struck out two batters.
Kannapolis 1, Augusta 0
When your starter goes 8.2 innings of no-hit ball, you’ll only need one runs of support, scored by Eddy Alvarez off of a Louie Lechich an RBI – Alvarez singled to lead off the ninth, got to second on a wild pitch, got to third on a Masson Robbins’ sacrifice bunt and scored on a grounder to second base. The Intimidators finally gave starter Yency Almonte his first run of support.
Almonte carried his no hitter to two outs in the ninth, having only walked one batter and striking out six. He hen allowed two hits, so Kelvis Valerio had to come in for the save. Almonte notched his sixth win of the season.
Great Falls 4, Missoula 2
With Zack Erwin getting the start, the Voyagers were able to fight there way to a victory over the Osprey. Erwin went three innings and only allowed one run while striking out two, though Brandon Magallones stole the show with a four inning, five strikeout performance where he allowed no runs and picked up the win. Johan Cruz went 2-4 with two runs scored while Antonio Rodriguez went 1-4 with a three run blast. Jake Jarvis had the other RBI after going 1-4 and Casey Schroeder went 0-2 with two walks.
DSL Orioles1 8, DSL White Sox 3
The DSL White Sox couldn’t secure the farm-wide sweep as they fell to one of the Orioles DSL teams by a score of 8-3.
