Louisville 3, Charlotte 1
The Knights’ ace Erik Johnson lost a pitchers duel in a highly anticipated match-up with Red’s top prospect Robert Stephenson on Tuesday night. Johnson, who was scratched from a previous start to align schedules with heavily rumored Jeff Samardzija, only allowed an unearned run over six innings while striking out two. Johnson has been unbelievably dominant recently, having only allowed one earned run over his past 47 innings. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the win, as the Knight’s offense went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Micah Johnson went 1-3 with a walk and his 25th and 26th stolen base and has only been thrown out six times in thirty-two attempts on the year. Micah continues to hit at a high rate and is slashing .330/.382/.489 over 65 games with the Knights.
Mississippi 12, Birmingham 3
Tyler Danish‘s roller coaster season continues, as he was roughed up for seven runs on nine hits over four innings on Tuesday. While Danish’s ERA ballooned up to 4.75 on the season, it is important to remember he is only 20 years-old and the Sox were very aggressive with his assignment and his struggles are expected. Catcher Rob Brantly went 2-4 and has been hot recently, hitting .410 over his past ten games. Second baseman Joey DeMichele had a strong game, going 3-4 with a double.
*Winston-Salem’s game was postponed due to the weather and they will play a doubleheader on Wednesday with 2015 1st round pick Carson Fulmer starting game 1.*
Kannapolis 3, Lakewood 1
Starter Yency Almonte, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in the Gordon Beckham trade last August, tossed six innings of one-run ball to earn the win over the Lakewood BlueClaws. Local reports had his fastball hitting mid-90s, which is new for him. Reliever Jose Brito took care of the rest by throwing three scoreless innings to finish the game. Outfielder Louie Lechich drove in all three of the Intimidators runs as he went 3-4 to provide all the offense needed.
Great Falls 3, Billings 0
Three Great Falls pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout to propel the Voyagers to the win. Brandon Magallones (5 IP), Alex Katz (2 IP), and Danny Dopico (2 IP) each took their turn shutting down the Billings Mustangs. Catcher Zach Fish homered and outfielder Frank Califano went 2-3 to lead the Voyagers offense.
AZL White Sox 7, AZL Angels 2
Starter Ryan Powers had an excellent start as he did not allow an earned run over six innings on two hits, no walks, and struck out seven. Powers has now struck out 21 batters to only three walks thus far on the season. Catcher Seby Zavala went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk and shortstop Amado Nunez went 2-4 with a stolen base to pace the Sox offense.
DSL White Sox 19, DSL Diamondbacks 3
The Dominican Summer League White Sox benefitted from 16(!) walks to rack up 19 runs on 11 hits and crush the DSL D-Backs. White Sox standout Maiker Feliz actually had a subdued game, going 1-4 with two walks but the rest of the lineup picked up the slack in a big way.
