Indianapolis 5, Charlotte 1
Brad Penny took the loss for the Knights after going six innings and allowing four runs, but only one earned. Terance Marin pitched two innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out a batter with no walks.
New acquisition Justin Sellers led off for the Knights, with Micah Johnson on the DL and Leury Garcia in Chicago, and went 1-4. Matt Davidson was 2-4 with a strikeout. Trayce Thompson and Drew Garcia had the two remaining hits for the Knights and Garcia had the team’s only extra base hit – a double. Jason Coats had the only RBI, knocking in Garcia.
Mississippi 4, Birmingham 3
Frankie Montas got the start for Birmingham and also fell victim to poor defense – Montas allowed four runs, but only two earned. In his 5.2 innings pitched Montas struck out seven batters, walked one and allowed eight hits. Kyle Hansen and Tim Crabbe pitched three scoreless innings combined, with Crabbe striking out the side in the ninth.
On offense the Barons couldn’t string together many of their seven hits. Jacob May and Danny Hayes were each 1-4 with a run scored while Rob Brantly was 2-4 with a run scored. Marcus Lemon was hitless, but had a walk and two RBIs. Christian Marrero had the other RBI.
Winston-Salem 7, Lynchburg 6
Matt Heidenreich got the start for the Dash and went five innings while allowing four runs on five hits and four walks, though he did strike out four. Andre Wheeler pitched two innings of relief where he struck out four but allowed two runs. Jefferson Olacio pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up the win.
Keon Barnum and Trey Michalczewski did most of the damage for the Dash. Barnum went 1-3 with a three run double while Michalczewski was 1-3 with two RBIs. Jake Peter and Eddy Alvarez, playing at second and shortstop respectively, scored five runs between them. Peter had a triple while Alvarez went 1-3 with a walk, and so far his average in Winston-Salem is at .357.
Kannapolis 4, Greensboro 3
Yelmison Peralta turned in a decent start for Kannapolis where he allowed three runs in five innings. Brad Salgado and Matt Cooper only allowed one hit in a combined four innings to win the game, with Cooper getting the win thanks to John Ziznewski’s walk-off hit.
Mason Robbins led the Intimidators by going 3-4. Louie Lechich was 2-4 with an RBI. Michael Suiter and Ryan Plourde each had a double, with Suiter driving in Plourde.
Great Falls 7, Helena 4
The Voyagers were the beneficiaries of some shaky Brewers defense as Great Falls scored three unearned runs, which was the difference in the game. Johan Cruz went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk. Antonio Rodriguez and Zach Fish each went 1-4 with a double, Rodriguez also had an RBI. Nick Parent went 1-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Tanner Banks started the first two innings and only allowed one hit, one walk and struck out two. Braulio Ortiz allowed no hits, but did walk two, as he struck out three in two innings. Mike Gomez gave up two home runs en route to giving up four runs in his three innings. Ryan Hinchley closed the game with the exact same stat-line as Ortiz.
DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL White Sox 3
Ramon Beltre went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk in the loss for the DSL White Sox. Droherlin Meija was 1-4 with a double, RBI and a walk.
