Indianapolis 6, Charlotte 5 (13 innings)
The Knights lost a marathon game to the division leading Indianapolis Indians in heartbreaking fashion. After the Knights were held scoreless from the 5th to the 12th inning, they finally pushed across a run in the top of the 13th only to see the Indians walk-off with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The loss spoiled the return of former Knight Dayan Viciedo, as he went 2-6 in his first game back in the Sox organization. Second baseman Drew Garcia had three hits and catcher Kevan Smith went 2-4 with a walk to pace the Charlotte offense. Starter Junior Guerra allowed one earned run over three innings of work and reliever Jarrett Casey tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Birmingham 7, Mississippi 3
Myles Jaye cruised to the win as he threw seven innings while only allowing two earned runs while striking out seven. Jaye has been unbelievable for the Barons this season, he has won 11 games and has put up a 1.77 ERA over his last ten starts. Jaye received plenty of run support as a balanced Barons offense put up 12 hits that saw every member of the lineup reach base. Tim Anderson did not have a hit, but he did walk twice and steal his 38th base of the season. Outfielder Jacob May went 2-5 and also stole a base, his 28th of the season. Closer Peter Tago, who has been unscored upon in 4.2 innings with the Barons, pitched 1.2 perfect innings to finish the game.
Lynchburg 10, Winston-Salem 9
The Dash mounted a furious comeback that fell just short in a loss to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday night. The Dash fell behind 10-0 in the 4th but scored nine runs over the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings to make things very interesting. The offense produced 17 hits and it started at the top of the lineup as Adam Engel and Eddy Alvarez combined to reach base seven times. Jake Peter and Trey Michalczewski both went 2-5 and outfielder Nick Basto went 3-5 with a home run and four RBI’s.
Starter James Dykstra struggled through three innings, as he gave up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits. However, relievers Jake Cose and Brad Goldberg only allowed one hit over the remaining six innings as they did everything they could to let the Dash offense catch up. Jake Cose, a former starter, may have found a home in the bullpen as he has a 1.85 ERA in that role this season.
Kannapolis 7, Greensboro 4
2014 2nd round draft pick Spencer Adams outdueled 2014 2nd overall pick Tyler Kolek as the Intimidators bested the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Kolek, who the Miami Marlins selected in favor of current major leaguer Carlos Rodon, walked five batters and allowed four runs over two innings. Adams on the other hand, did not allow a walk while striking out six batters over his six innings of work. Adams got off a rough start to the season, but has a 2.97 ERA over his last ten starts and has shown unbelievable command by only walking five batters over that span of 57.2 innings.
Shortstop Ryan Leonards and third baseman John Ziznewski led the offense with excellent overall games. Leonards went 2-3 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases while Ziznewski went 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Great Falls 6, Helena 4
Johan Cruz hit a 1st inning home run and an Antonio Rodriguez triple led the Voyagers to the victory in front of the home crowd on Saturday night. Starter Brannon Easterling threw 4.1 innings and did not allow an earned run but it was reliever Danny Dopico who earned the win thanks to pitching a scoreless 8th and 9th inning. Antonio Rodriguez‘s triple came at the perfect time as he gave the Voyagers the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning.
AZL Rangers 4, AZL White Sox 2
The Arizona League White Sox let a game slip away as they went 0-9 with runners in scoring position and allowed three late unearned runs to score. The blunders spoiled an excellent start by Yeuris Guerrero, who threw five innings and only allowed one run. Reliever Johnathan Frebis pitched two perfect innings in relief to lower his season ERA to 1.10. 2015 6th round draft pick Corey Zangari went 3-4 and is hitting .350 over his past ten games. Catcher Seby Zavala launched his second home run of the season and went 2-3 to raise his season slash line to an impressive .364/.432/.662. That is not a typo on the slugging percentage, Zavala has 17 extra base hits on the season and I would expect the 21 year-old to be promoted soon to a more challenging level.

Forgettable game for the DSL Sox as they were routed by the Blue Jays.
