Charlotte 8, Durham 6
Erik Johnson made the start for the Knights, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings, while striking out five. Tommy Kahnle and Daniel Webb each pitched two innings in relief, and both gave up one run while Webb ended up getting the win. Travis Ishikawa led the way at the plate, going 4 for 5 with a double, one RBI, and two runs scored. Jason Coats went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Matt Davidson and Carlos Sanchez also did some damage, as they both hit solo home runs, though Davidson also struck out three times.
The Knights return to action tonight night in game three of four against the Bulls with Chris Beck making the start.
Jacksonville 8, Birmingham 3
Second-ranked White Sox prospect Carson Fulmer made his AA debut for the Barons, and it was not pretty. He lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on just one hit, which was a grand slam from former White Sox minor leaguer, Brady Shoemaker. Fulmer had major control issues after cruising through the first two innings, as he walked four in the third inning. Perhaps worth noting: he worked the game from the stretch. Offensively, Joey DeMichele, Courtney Hawkins, and Jake Peter each had two hits.
The Barons will look for their first win on the season tonight against the Suns, as Jordan Guerrero is set to make his AA debut.
Lynchburg 5, Winston-Salem 4
Matt Cooper made the start for the Dash, giving up two runs on five hits over five innings, while striking out seven. Cooper was one of two starters in the system on this night making their first starts as a pro. At the plate, Hunter Jones, Nick Basto, and Marcus Davis each led the way with two hits apiece.
Thaddius Lowry makes the start tonight against the Hillcats, where he’ll look to get the Dash back in the win column.
Hickory 8, Kannapolis 2
Ryan Riga, the other pitcher making their first start after relieving as a pro, made the start for the Intimidators, giving up five runs on six hits over 3.1 innings. Out of the pen, Brannon Easterling did a nice job, firing 2.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball. The offense was kept in check by top prospect Dillon Tate, though Grant Massey had two hits on the night. Also worth noting, First baseman and Futuresox #12 preseason prospect Corey Zangari left the game after getting hit by a pitch in the left elbow. No word yet on any injury, though it sounded like it wasn’t serious.
The Intimidators return to action tonight in game three of four against the Crawdads, looking for their first win of the 2016 season.
