The Intimidators scored three 7th inning runs to save the Sox affiliates from a sweep Tuesday night that included a few shaky pitching performances.
Columbus 7, Charlotte 3
Starter Chris Beck gave up nine hits and six runs and could not finish the 5th inning as the Knights were defeated in the opening game of the series against Columbus. Catcher Omar Narvaez got the start in his first AAA game and went 1-4. Outfielders Jacob May and Leury Garcia led the offense by both collecting two hits while Carlos Sanchez added a double, a walk, and two stolen bases.
The Knights hope to regroup tomorrow with red-hot Jacob Turner getting the start.
Chattanooga 10, Birmingham 7
The Barons stormed out of the gates and scored five runs in the top of the 1st, but starter Brandon Brennan was completely shelled, allowing ten runs (nine earned) in 2.2 innings. However, the bullpen stepped up and the trio of Brian Clark, Nolan Sanburn, and Peter Tago combined to blank Chattanooga over the remaining 5.1 innings. Clark was especially dominant, striking out six durin his 2.1 innings and lowered his season ERA to a minuscule 0.68.
Offensively the Barons were lead by Trey Michalczewski who hit his second home run of the season, along with a double and a walk. Jake Peter, Eudy Pina, and Joey DeMichele also had multiple hits in the losing effort.
The Barons have an off day Wednesday before returning home to face Pensacola with Tyler Danish taking the hill.
Lynchburg 11, Winston-Salem 6
The Dash and starter Jordan Stephens ran into a buzzsaw as the Lynchburg Hillcats improved to 15-4 on the season. Stephens struggled by his lofty standards, allowing three runs on five hits over four innings while striking out four. Interesting to note, Stephens gave up a 4th inning solo home run and it was the first long ball he has allowed in his professional career spanning 35.2 innings.
Gerson Montilla homered and singled to lead the Dash and recently promoted Daniel Mendick walked twice in his A+ debut.
The Dash will send Blair Walters to the hill to try and slow down the Hillcats on Wednesday.
Kannapolis 7, Augusta 5
Second baseman Grant Massey smacked two doubles and reached base four times in five at bats and Corey Zangari launched his fourth home run to rally the Intimidators past Augusta. Zangari’s three-run home run in the 7th proved to be the difference as starter Tanner Banks tossed 6.1 innings and only allowed three earned runs on three hits to earn the win. Reliever Taylore Cherry struck out four batters over 2.2 innings to nail the win down.
The Intimidators are currently playing some morning baseball as Jonathon Frebis gets the start.
