Charlotte and Birmingham came away victorious in close games, while Winston-Salem and Kannapolis suffered losses. Tim Anderson continues to see the ball really well, as he had three hits tonight, while Danny Hayes and Jake Peter both showed off their power with home runs. Jordan Guerrero turned in the best start on the farm tonight, as he gave up just one run over six innings of work.
Charlotte 6, Syracuse 5
Anthony Ranaudo made the start and went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Blake Smith earned his second win of the season out of the bullpen, as he fired two hitless innings with three strikeouts. Brad Goldberg got his third save of the season, while giving up a run on two hits in an inning of work. Offensively, Tim Anderson was a major catalyst, as he had three hits in five at bats, including a double and a RBI. After a slow start, Anderson is now hitting .321 in his first Triple-A season. Danny Hayes also played a big role, as he had two hits and two runs scored, while also hitting his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the sixth. Leury Garcia had two hits and two runs scored on the night, while Omar Narvaez had a pair of hits as well.
The Knights head to Rochester where they start a three game set with the Red Wings tomorrow night, and a starter has yet to be announced.
Birmingham 6, Pensacola 4
Southpaw Jordan Guerrero dazzled in his start, as he hurled six innings of one run ball while giving up just three hits and striking out four. He did have five walks though, but was able to minimize the damage on those free passes. Peter Tago earned his fifth save of the season, as he threw two innings in relief while giving up one run and striking out two. The Barons had ten hits on the night, and eight of nine starters had at least one hit. Jake Peter hit his fourth home run of the season and had two RBIs and two runs scored. Adam Engel had two hits, including a double in his second game back since returning from High-A Winston-Salem. Courtney Hawkins also turned in a nice game, as he had two hits and is now hitting .257 on the season. Trey Michalczewski and Eddy Alvarez also contributed, as they each had one RBI on the night.
Carson Fulmer gets the nod in game three of five with the Blue Wahoos tomorrow night.
Frederick 9, Winston-Salem 4
It was a night to forget on the mound for the Dash, as three pitchers combined to give up nine runs. Brandon Brennan made the start and went six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with five punch outs. The bullpen was even worse, as Manny Martinez and Jacob Morris combined to surrender five runs over three innings of work. At the plate, all nine starters had at least one hit. Michael Suiter hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the third, a two run shot. Cleuluis Rondon had two hits and a run scored on the night, while Marcus Davis and Toby Thomas each had a hit and run scored as well.
The Dash hit the road and begin a four game series with the Potomac Nationals tomorrow night, as Matt Cooper will make his tenth start of the season.
Asheville 9, Kannapolis 6
Luis Martinez made the start for the Intimidators, but struggled from the start. He gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings of work. The lone bright spot on the mound came from Ryan Riga, who fired two innings of scoreless ball while striking out three. The offense remained hot for the Intimidators, as the team had fourteen hits on the night. Seby Zavala had two hits and three RBIs, including a three run home run, his third of the season. Grant Massey had a hit and two RBIs, while Tyler Sullivan, Johan Cruz, and Landon Lassiter all had a pair of hits as well.
Chris Comito will make the start in hopes of earning his first win of the season tomorrow night against the Tourists.
