Double-A Birmingham and High-A Winston-Salem came away victorious on the night, as David Holmberg and Thaddius Lowry were very strong in their respective starts. Triple-A Charlotte let a lead slip away, while Low-A Kannapolis lost a nail biter extra innings.
Lehigh Valley 6, Charlotte 4
Jacob Turner made the start and lasted five innings, giving up two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. The bullpen could not hold the lead, as Terance Marin suffered the loss, giving up three runs in 1.1 innings of work. The only positive out of the pen came from Will Lamb, who fired a scoreless eighth inning while punching out one. Offensively, Jason Bourgeois was the only Knights batter who had a multi-hit game, as he had a pair of singles. Carlos Sanchez, Danny Hayes, Matt Davidson, and Nick Delmonico all contributed as well, as each had one hit and a RBI on the night.
The Knights return to action with the IronPigs tomorrow night, as Chris Volstad is set to start.
Birmingham 3, Chattanooga 2
Southpaw David Holmberg had a quality start, as he threw seven innings of two run ball while giving up five hits and striking out six. Nolan Sanburn got the final six outs without giving up a hit, and earned his second save of the season. The top third of the order came up big for the Barons at the plate, as they combined for all three of the team’s RBIs. Lead off man Adam Engel and number three hitter Jake Peter each had a hit and a RBI, while Joey DeMichele had a RBI hitting in the two hole. The bottom third of the lineup were major contributors as well, as Jeremy Dowdy, Marcus Lemon, and Keenyn Walker all had a hit, walk, and run scored.
Southpaw Blair Walters takes the mound tomorrow night, as the Barons and Lookouts square off in the final game of a five game series.
Winston-Salem 5, Carolina 3
Thaddius Lowry was very good in his start, as he went six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits with three strikeouts. The bullpen was stellar, as Andre Wheeler gave up one unearned run in two innings of work, and Connor Walsh pitched a scoreless ninth and earned his fourth save of the season. All of the offense from the Dash came in the bottom of the sixth inning, as five Dash runners came across to score. Marcus Jones started things off with a two run triple, and was then followed by Chris O’Dowd, who blasted a two run home run, his first of the season. Lead-off man Hunter Jones was another standout offensively, as he had a triple and a run scored.
The Dash open a four game set with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at home starting tomorrow night, and Jordan Stevens will be on the hill to start.
Charleston 5, Kannapolis 4 (10 innings)
Tanner Banks made the started and lasted six innings, giving up four runs on ten hits with a pair of strikeouts. Ryan Riga and Brannon Easterling kept the Intimidators in the game, as they combined for three scoreless innings in relief. Taylore Cherry suffered the loss, giving up one run the bottom of the tenth. The Intimidators had ten hits on the night, led by Seby Zavala, who had two hits and two RBIs. Landon Lassiter had a pair of base knocks and two runs scored, and Danny Mendick had two singles on the night.
The Intimidators look to get back to winning ways tomorrow night, as the square off in the rubber match of a three game set with the RiverDogs. Johnathan Frebis will start and look to win his fifth game of the season.
