It was a rough day on the farm, as Birmingham and the DSL White Sox were the only teams who came away with wins. The Barons won their game in thrilling fashion, as they were led by David Holmberg, who had his best start of the season. Kelvis Valerio did a terrific job in his first start since moving to the rotation for the Dash, as he gave up just one unearned run over 5.1 innings of work.
Indianapolis 5, Charlotte 4
Scott Carroll suffered his fourth loss of the season, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings of work. Brian Clark did a nice job out of the bullpen, firing 1.2 innings of hitless ball and striking out one.
At the plate, lead off man Jason Bourgeois and Andy Parrino both had two hits, while Bourgeois had one RBI and Parrino had two. Brett Hayes also had two hits, and Leury Garcia had a single, run scored, and a RBI in the loss.

Birmingham 3, Mississippi 2 (10 innings)
Southpaw David Holmberg turned in his best start of the season last night, firing seven scoreless innings and giving up just two hits while striking out five. He unfortunately did not get the win, as the Barons blew a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth. Nolan Sanburn earned his first win of the season in relief, firing a scoreless tenth without surrendering a hit.
The Barons only had four hits on the day, and were led by Joey DeMichele and Eddy Alvarez, who each had one hit and one RBI. DeMichele’s hit and RBI came in the bottom of the tenth, where he drove home Keenyn Walker on a single for a game winner. Courtney Hawkins and Sean O’Connell were also contributors, as they both had a hit and run scored on the night.

Salem 4, Winston-Salem 2
Kelvis Valerio was excellent in his first start, giving up one unearned run on three hits over 5.1 innings of work. The bullpen did their job, as Danny Dopico, Connor Walsh, and Colin Kleven gave up just one earned run over 3.2 innings, but the defense costed the Dash mightily. Only one of Salem’s four runs were earned, as the Dash had three errors on the night. Connor Walsh suffered the undeserving loss, and fell to 1 and 2 on the year.
The Dash had eight hits as Hunter Jones and Ryan Leonards both had a pair of base knocks, with Jones driving in the Dash’s two runs on the night. Nick Basto had a double, while Mason Robbins, Cleuluis Rondon, and Gerson Montilla all had one hit.

Offensively, Casey Schroeder, Brady Conlan, and Jake Jarvis all had two hits, with Jarvis hitting his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the seventh. Corey Zangari also homered, hitting a two-run blast in the top of the sixth, and Alex Call and Jameson Fisher had one hit a piece.
