White Sox Minor League Recap 6/19/2016: Sox affiliates swept as Barons, Dash, and Intimidators close first half

Indianapolis 6, Charlotte 3
Charlotte starter Jacob Turner gave up six runs over six inning as the Knights dropped the rubber match to the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday. Nick Delmonico and Carlos Sanchez led the offense by each collecting three hits on the day. Sanchez also tripled, which was his second of the season.
Reliever Matt Lollis had a successful Triple-A debut, coming on in relief of Turner and not allowing a hit or a run over two innings. Cleveland native and former University of Ohio State Buckeye Brad Goldberg also tossed a scoreless inning of relief, then presumably enjoyed the rest of his evening watching the NBA Finals.
Chris Volstad will get the start Monday as the Knights begin a series in Durham against the Bulls.
Mississippi 8, Birmingham 3
After stringing together a few nice starts in a row, Carson Fulmer struggled against his former teammate Dansby Swanson and the Mississippi Braves. Fulmer was knocked out in the fifth inning after allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks. The silver lining is that Fulmer punched out nine batters over his 4.1 innings and has struck out 32 batters over his last 22 innings. Tyler Barnette came on in relief of Fulmer and held the Braves at bay, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while only allowing one hit.
The Barons offense was suppressed by Mississippi hurler Rob Whalen, though Eddy Alvarez did blast an 8th inning home run. The home run was Alvarez’s 2nd of the season and he also added a single. Adam Engel doubled and Courtney Hawkins went 1-4 with a strikeout.
Eudy Pina and Jake Peter will represent the Barons in the Southern League All-Star Game on Tuesday. The Barons will return to action on Thursday with Jordan Guerrero taking the mound.
Salem 2, Winston-Salem 1
The Dash dropped the finale of the the first half of the season despite a strong start from Thad Lowry. Lowry struck out seven batters over six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and no walks. Zach Fish hit an RBI double, but that was the only support the offense could muster. Lowry is having his best season of his career, lowering his ERA (3.65) by nearly a run from last season.
Matt Cooper and Hunter Jones will represent the Dash in the Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday, while the rest of the Winston-Salem squad will return to action on Thursday.
Lakewood 7, Kannapolis 1
Johnathan Frebis allowed four runs over 4.1 inning and the Intimidators offense only could convert eight hits into one run as Kannapolis was routed in the finale of the first half of the season. Lead-off man Tyler Sullivan reached base three times, going 2-4 with a walk and a stolen base. 2016 9th round pick Max Dutto went 1-3 with a walk in only his second professional game. Cody Daily and Bradley Strong each went 2-4 in the losing effort.
Kannapolis will send Seby Zavala, Zachary Thompson, Danny Mendick, and Landon Lassiter to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday. The Intimidators return to action to begin the second half of the season on Thursday against Delmarva.
Helena 5, Great Falls 4
The Great Falls Voyagers lost their third straight game despite a 12 hit barrage led mostly by the 2016 draft class. The 3rd and 4th round draft picks, Alex Call and Jameson Fisher led things off in the 1-2 positions with two hits apiece. Aaron Schnurbusch (28th round) and Brady Conlan (24th round) each had three hits and a walk. Conlan has been especially impressive, as he has started his career with three consecutive multi-hit games.
The Voyagers will be looking to avoid the sweep on Monday as they take on Helena in the finale of the series.
