Gwinnett 6, Charlotte 0
The Knights pounded out ten hits, but went 0-for-10 with RISP and couldn’t push across a run while Tyler Danish was knocked out of the game after just two innings. Danish has spent the majority of the season with the Barons, but was promoted in a roundabout way to Charlotte after a short stint with the major league club on June 14th. Danish’s first AAA start went relatively well, but Sunday he was lit up for six runs on nine hits and was saddled with the loss. Facing a 6-0 deficit, the Knights bullpen blanked the Gwinnett Braves over the remainder of the game. Juan Minaya, who was claimed by the White Sox from the Astros, made his Charlotte debut with authority by striking out the side in his only inning of work.
Matt Davidson led the offense with two hits and now has had four consecutive multi-hit games. Davidson is quietly putting together a solid season, slashing .266/.349/.432. Carlos Sanchez added a double and Louis Silverio went 2-4 with two doubles as well.
The Knights kick off a new series by hosting the Durham Bulls on Monday and will send Anthony Ranaudo to the hill.
Birmingham 10, Mobile 0
Carson Fulmer undoubtedly had his best professional start of his career, as he fired seven scoreless innings, struck out seven batters, and only allowed two singles and two walks. Fulmer’s seven innings was the longest career outing for the 2015 1st round pick. Fulmer’s season ERA is still an unsightly 5.28, however, he has pitched much better of late.
The Barons offense gave Fulmer plenty of run support, as Trey Michalczewski, Eddy Alvarez, and Courtney Hawkins all homered. Hawkins and Alvarez have had a lackluster 2016 campaign, but you couldn’t tell Sunday as both players collected three hits. Alvarez has been especially hot recently, hitting .361/.452/.541 in the month of June.
The Barons will go for a win on Monday in the series finale and have not named a starter yet.
Winston-Salem 5, Wilmington 1
Starter Thad Lowry threw seven innings of one-run ball and shortstop Cleuluis Rondon slugged a home run to lead the Dash to the victory. Lowry got off to a slow start to the season, but told FutureSox he noticed he may of been tipping his pitches. He corrected the issue and has been fantastic recently, posting a 1.36 ERA over his last three starts.
The offense used a balanced attack on Sunday and eight of the nine members of the lineup got a hit.
Winston-Salem travels to Potomoc to begin a series with the Nationals and Kelvis Valerio will get the start.
Delmarva 5, Kannapolis 3
Zach Thompson and the Kannapolis bullpen only allowed one earned run to score but were let down by two Micker Adolfo fielding errors as the Intimidators dropped the game on Sunday. Thompson, fresh off working a scoreless inning in the All-Star Game, tossed six innings and only gave up one earned run. Reliever Taylore Cherry was the tough luck loser as he allowed two unearned runs to score over 1.2 innings.
Second baseman Bradley Strong had a great game, going 2-3 with a home run and walk. 2016 draft pick Max Dutto went 2-4 with a double and Antonio Rodriguez also went 2-4 to lead the offense.
Kannapolis will host the Rome Braves on Monday and they have not announced a starter yet.
Great Falls 3, Helena 2
An RBI triple from Corey Zangari tied the game in the 8th and Aaron Schnurbusch drove Zangari home for the go-ahead run that would prove to be the game winner. The triple was Zangari’s first of his professional career and it could not of come at a better time. The powerful 19 year-old finished the game 2-4 with two strikeouts. Schnurbusch went 2-3 with a walk and is hitting .370 to start off his career.
Fernando Gallegos struck out eight batters and only allowed one run to score over seven innings of work. Jaider Rocha closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
the Voyagers will travel to Billings to face the Mustangs on Monday and have not yet announced a starter.
AZL D’Backs 11, AZL White Sox 5
The AZL White Sox dropped an ugly game that included four errors and five unearned runs on unlucky starter Edinxon Arias. The offense was led by a great performance by 2016 22nd round pick Joel Booker, who went 4-5. Shortstop Amado Nunez drove in three runs and went 1-4 with a double and a walk.
