The Dash were rained out while the Knights and the Intimidators played doubleheaders to make up their respective rainouts the day prior.
Charlotte 5, Durham 4 (Game 1)
Things seemed dire for the Knights entering the bottom of the 5th inning in game one of the doubleheader Tuesday. They were down four runs with just two innings remaining and had only managed three hits up to that point. However, catcher Omar Narvaez blasted a solo home run and then Jake Peter, Jacob May, and Carlos Sanchez singled to load the bases. Matt Davidson stepped to the plate and crushed his 10th home run of the season over the center field wall to give the Knights the lead. Reliever Brian Clark worked a scoreless 6th and Tommy Kahnle earned his sixth AAA save by striking out the side in the 7th.
Starter Anthony Ranaudo was not at his best, giving up four runs on twelve hits over his five innings of work.
Durham 7, Charlotte 2 (Game 2)
The Durham Bulls jumped all over Charlotte starter Scott Carroll early and cruised to an easy win in game two of the doubleheader. The offense was held to three hits, however, Matt Davidson kept up his hot-hitting by smacking a two-run double. Davidson is hitting .313/.368/.469 in the month of June and is easily having his best season since 2013 when he was with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Despite the disappointing result, a couple of major league ready relievers made scoreless appearances. Brad Goldberg tossed a scoreless 6th inning and now has a 0.77 ERA over his last 11.2 innings and recently acquired Juan Minaya threw a scoreless 7th inning for his second consecutive clean appearance with his new club.
Jacob Turner will take the mound in the finale of the series against Durham on Wednesday.
Kannapolis 10, Rome 0 (Game 1)
Starter Brannon Easterling threw three perfect innings with four strikeouts and the Intimidators offense blasted three home runs to rout the Rome Braves. K.J. Wood, Antonio Rodriguez, and Bradley Strong went deep and Cody Daily doubled twice to lead the charge. Relievers Drew Hasler and Dylan Barrow each threw two scoreless innings to close the game out for the Intimidators.
Rome 4, Kannapolis 1 (Game 2)
After pounding out 11 hits in game one, Kannapolis only had two against Atlanta’s 2015 1st round pick Mike Soroka in game two. However, second baseman Bradley Strong homered in the 6th inning to put the Intimidators on the board. It was Strong’s third home run in as many games, which incredibly is more home runs than he had (two) in his first 72 games of his career.
The Intimidators continue their series with Rome as Luis Martinez will take the mound on Wednesday.
Great Falls 6, Billings 1
2016 4th round pick Jameson Fisher was a prolific hitter for Southeastern Louisiana and his bat has had no problem transitioning to pro ball. Fisher led the game off with a solo home run and then hit a three-run bomb in the 7th inning to cap off his day. The 22 year-old is hitting .359/.468/.564 over his first 11 games. Twenty rounds after Fisher was picked, the White Sox selected another small school prospect, Brady Conlan. Conlan only homered once Tuesday, but is having an even better season than Fisher, slashing .395/.458/.628. Anthony Villa (2016, 19th round) also homered and Aaron Schnurbusch (2016, 28th round) went 2-4 with a stolen base to raise his average to .371.
19 year-old Yosmer Solorzano, who impressed last season leading the AZL White Sox to a championship, allowed one run over seven innings to earn the win. Solorzano has been fantastic over his three starts for Great Falls, posting a 2.12 ERA and only allowing one walk over 17 innings.
AZL Padres 4, AZL White Sox 2
The Arizona League White Sox committed a stunning six errors as they dropped an ugly game to the AZL Padres. While the errors are shocking, it is important to remember that the majority of the AZL fielders are teenagers seeing their first action in affiliated professional ball.
Luis Ledo, a product of the Dominican Summer League, took the tough luck loss after allowing one earned run over four innings. 2016 6th round pick Luis Curbelo tripled for the Sox only extra base hit.
