Wednesday’s games could best be described as “Quintana-esque” as many starters on the farm had great starts, but were left with little help from their offense.
Durham 3, Charlotte 2
Jacob Turner turned in a gem for the Knights after going eight innings of two run ball, walking one and striking out three more. Sadly, Will Lamb gave away the game as he gave up the go-ahead run and blew his save opportunity.
On offense the team couldn’t get much going outside of a few players. Jacob May and Leury Garcia both went 2-4, but of the two speedsters only May scored a run. May did also swipe three bases. Omar Narvaez, Jason Bourgeois and Jerry Sands all had singles in a lineup devoid of Matt Davidson, rumored to be on his way to Chicago.
Birmingham 3, Biloxi 1
Jordan Guerrero and Peter Tago combined to throw a stellar game for the Barons as Guerrero threw 6.1 innings of one run ball with three strikeouts and two walks. Tago blew the save by allowing Guerrero’s runner to score, but shut out Biloxi the rest of the way to lead the barons to victory.
Potomac 3, Winston-Salem 2
Jordan Stephens continued the trend of strong starts as he struck out eight batters over his six innings of one run work, only allowing five hits and two walks in that time frame. Ryan Riga held the lead before Danny Dopico and Jacob Morris each walked three batters and gave up an earned run to take the loss.
On offense Toby Thomas had a great game, going 3-4 with a double, walk and RBI. Telvin Nash and Chris O’Dowd each went 2-4 with a walk flanking him. Gerson Montilla went 2-4 with a double to his name.
Rome 4, Kannapolis 0
Luis Martinez managed to strike out seven batters in his seven innings of work, but he also allowed four runs on six hits and one walk. With no offense behind him, he took home the loss. Jack Charleston threw two innings of one-hit ball.
The Intimidators were only able to manage six singles on offense. Landon Lassiter was 1-3 with a walk, newly acquired DH K.J. Woods was 1-4 with a golden sombrero. Antonio Rodriguez and Grant Massey each went 1-4. Bradley Strong was 2-3.
Billings 4, Great Falls 2
On a night where the White Sox unloaded offensively, even Great Falls was silenced. Alex Call continues to exceed expectations after going 2-4 with a walk and RBI. Anthony Villa was 1-4 with an RBI double and Brady Conlan had the team’s other hit. Mitch Roman stole his sixth bag in this still young season.
Aron McRee went four innings, struck out four and had two earned runs. Jake Elliott went three innings, struck out three. Michael Horesjei and Ryan Hinchley each went two innings of giving up no earned runs, but Hinchley took the loss with two unearned runs.
