The Knights and Barons got some help with the long ball in their respective wins, as Leury Garcia, Keon Barnum, and Eudy Pina all went deep. Brannon Easterling was terrific in his start for Kannapolis, as he pitched five scoreless innings en route to the win.
Charlotte 10, Lehigh Valley 3
Scott Carroll earned his fifth win of the season, as he pitched five innings of one run ball on five hits. Tyler Danish got the hold, giving up two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts over three innings of work. Brad Goldberg had a solid outing as well, as he pitched a hitless ninth while punching out two.
Offensively, Leury Garcia led the way for the Knights. He had a pair of hits, including a three run home run, his third of the season. Omar Narvaez and Danny Muno both had three hits and two RBIs, while Jason Bourgeois had two hits and one RBI. Lead-off man Jacob May had a nice game as well, as he hit two doubles and had two runs scored.
Anthony Ranaudo makes the start tonight against the Iron Pigs.
Birmingham 6, Biloxi 5 (10 innings)
David Holmberg got the start for the Barons, as he gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits with five strikeouts over six innings. The bullpen was stellar, as Andre Wheeler pitched two scoreless innings and was then followed by Peter Tago, who also pitched two scoreless innings and earned his fifth win of the season.
At the plate, Keon Barnum played a pivotal role, as he three hits including a two run homer, his first since joining Birmingham. Eudy Pina had a pair of base knocks, including a three run home run, his third of the year. The game was won in the bottom of the 10th, as Courtney Hawkins drove in Adam Engel on a walk off single.
The Barons and Shuckers meet tonight, and no starter has been announced for Birmingham.
Wilmington 6, Winston-Salem 3
Thaddius Lowry made the start but fell to 6-5 on the season, giving up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts over six innings. Manny Martinez followed with two innings in relief, giving up two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
Offensively, Toby Thomas had three hits including a double, while Nick Basto had two hits and all three RBIs, including a solo home run which was his ninth of the season. Hunter Jones and Mason Robbins also played a role, as each had a hit and a run scored on the night.
The Dash and Blue Rocks return to action tonight, as Kelvis Valerio will start.
Kannapolis 7, Hickory 3
Brannon Easterling was terrific in his start, as he pitched five scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and striking out two. Jack Charleston earned his first save of the season, as he pitched two hitless innings while striking out three.
Micker Adolfo was a main force behind the Intimidators offense, as he had three hits including a two run homer, his second since joining Kannapolis. Cody Daily had a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Max Dutto had two hits and a RBI. Lead-off man Tyler Sullivan was a solid contributor, as he had two hits and one run scored, and Daniel Gonzalez had one hit and a RBI.
The Intimidators and Crawdads square off tonight, and Max Beatty gets the start.
Billings 7, Great Falls 6
Christopher Comito went six innings in the start, giving up six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Michael Horejsei did a solid job out of the pen, as he pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two.
Jackson Glines and Brady Conlan both had three hits, as Glines had two RBIs and Conlan had one RBI. Other contributors were Alex Call, who had a hit and two RBIs, and Nate Nolan, who singled and drove in one.
The Voyagers have the day off today. They will face the Missoula Osprey for a three games series in Great Falls starting Monday night.
AZL Angels 11, AZL White Sox 5
It was a night to forget for the White Sox on the mound. John Holdzkom made the start but lasted just 0.2 innings, giving up four runs on three hits. The only pitcher who had a good night was Bernardo Flores, who pitched three innings without surrendering a hit and striking out two.
Offensively, lead-off man Joel Booker had two hits including a two run homer, his first of thee season. Slade Heathcott also went deep, hitting a solo shot in the ninth, while Jacob Cooper had a pair of hits and a RBI. Other contributors were Amado Nunez, who hit a single and had one RBI, and Maiker Feliz had two hits and a run scored.
The White Sox will play the AZL Giants tonight.
