Overall it was a strong night for the affiliates, with the Charlotte Knights standing as the evening’s only loser. Jonathan Frebis had arguably the best outing of his season for Low-A Kannapolis, while the Barons routed Chattanooga. Everything clicked on offense for Birmingham as Adam Engel turned in a nice box score. Down in Great Falls, recent White Sox draftees have continued to rake, with outfielders Jameson Fisher and Alex Call leading the way.
Pawtucket 8, Charlotte 4
Knights starter Chris Volstad had a rough night on the mound. He gave up seven runs on twelve hits over five innings, including two long balls. Jake Peter and Danny Muno mustered most of the Knight’s offense, each going 2-for-5 with a double. Centerfielder Jacob May went 2-for-5 as well and added his 11th stolen base of the season for good measure.
Kameron Loe gets the ball tomorrow as the Knights look to avoid the sweep.
Birmingham 9, Chattanooga 1
The Barons went on a hit parade, with all but one regular getting on the board. Adam Engel led the offensive attack with a 2-for-5 night, including a double, two RBIs, a walk, and three runs scored. He even swiped his 28th bag of the season. Trey Michalczewski also had a pair of RBIs to go along with a 2-for-5 night. Eddy Alvarez and Courtney Hawkins contributed doubles to solidify a thirteen hit night for the Barons.
Birmingham starter Blair Walters had a rough night control wise (4 walks) and only lasted 3.1 innings. Brandon Brennan picked him up and got the win, covering three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Carson Fulmer has put together scoreless outings in his last two starts, so he’ll try to continue the streak tomorrow.

Kannapolis 3, Hagerstown 2
Lefty Johnathan Frebis had one of the better outings of his season, giving up just one run on three hits over six innings. He had six strikeouts against no walks. Tyler Sullivan and Cody Daily notched RBIs, the latter via a double. Micker Adolfo tallied a hit on a 1-for-3 night. Grant Massey was perfect, going 2-f0r-2 with a free pass.
Righty Zack Thompson goes to the mound for the Intimidators tomorrow.
Great Falls 5, Missoula 4
The Voyagers evened their season record (9-9) with a win over Missoula last night. Aron McRee pitched six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. 2016 15th rounder Jake Elliot ended up getting the win, as he pitched 1.2 scoreless frames with three strikeouts. Sam Dexter paced the offense with a 2-for-4 night and two RBIs. Alex Call and Jameson Fisher are two of Chicago’s higher 2016 draft selections that continue to shine. Call went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Fisher turned in a 3-for-4 evening with a double. He also added his seventh stolen base of his strong early pro career.
Chicago native Adam Panayotovich will take the mound for the Voyagers tomorrow.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Dodgers 2
The White Sox grabbed Alec Hansen in the 2nd round in this year’s draft as a guy with big time stuff but an inability to hone in his control. Hansen stayed true to that profile in this start, going two hitless innings but walking three and striking out four. Luis Ledo picked up after him, covering five innings and giving up just one run.
Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs was at this start, and tweeted that Hansen’s fastball ran from 92 to 97, touching 98, but velo dropped notably in the 2nd inning of work. He also noted that his control diminished in that 2nd frame.
Joel Booker went 2-for-3 with a double and is now hitting .364 on the young season. Jacob Cooper went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Franklin Reyes had an uninspiring evening, going hitless in four at-bats with three whiffs.
