Charlotte 6, Gwinnett 4
Jake Peter was able to help power the Knights to victory, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Jerry Sands had a perfect day going 2-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and two walks. Justin Morneau was 0-4 in his rehab assignment with an RBI, a feat matched by the 0-3 Danny Muno, providing the last RBI. Slade Heathcott was 1-2 with two walks. Jason Bourgeois‘ average was maintained at a robust .356 as the outfielder went 2-5.
Jacob Turner provided a strong start on the mound, going six innings and striking out seven batters to the tune of only one earned run and one walk. Juan Minaya blew the lead, but won the game as he gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two. Ryan Webb and Brad Goldberg each threw one-hit, scoreless innings.
Birmingham 9, Jacksonville 8
Adam Engel and Eddy Alvarez, two players that struggled mightily to begin the year but have since recovered, had stellar games. Engel went 4-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and his 29th stolen base. Alvarez was 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and a walk. Other standouts included Keon Barnum and Joey DeMichele, who each notched a single and a double.
Jordan Guerrero had a strange start – scattering 10 hits over seven innings to four strikeouts and one walk, yet he only surrendered three runs. Zack Burdi dramatically lowered his AA ERA to 36.00 (from infinity) with a scoreless inning, featuring two strikeouts.
Andre Wheeler imploded and surrendered four runs off of only one hit and three walks while Brian Clark grabbed the save, after giving up one run.
Winston-Salem 13, Frederick 11
The Dash were able to launch four homers amongst their 16 hits. The sluggers of the night included Mason Robbins (2-5, 1 RBI), Marcus Davis (2-5, 2 RBIs), Telvin Nash (2-5, 2 RBIs) and Brett Austin (1-5, 2 RBI). Cleuluis Rondon and Nick Basto each went 2-4 with two walks. Hunter Jones, 3-6, stole his 30th base of the season.
Kelvis Valerio went five innings and gave up six runs on 10 hits and one walk, with a lone strikeout. Yelmison Peralta threw two perfect innings before Robinson Leyer pitched 1.2 innings and gave up three runs. Colin Kleven got the second 0.1 IP save for the farm system with a strikeout against his only batter.
Greensboro 7, Kannapolis 4
In game one of a double header, the Kannapolis offense relied squarely on Seby Zavala and Cody Daily, who each had two hits and two RBIs. Daily had a double and a walk included in that. Sadly other than those two, the team was only able to muster five singles across the lineup.
The bullpen pitched this entire game – Max Beatty gave up two earned runs in his two innings, with two strikeouts. Jack Charleston pitched the next two and was scoreless. Ian Hamilton gave up three runs in his one inning of work, which effectively buried the Intimidators. Alex Katz struck out four over his two scoreless innings of work.
Kannapolis 1, Greensboro 0
Luis Martinez and Taylore Cherry combined to throw a one-hit, one-walk game. Luis Martinez allowed both base runners while striking out seven. Taylore Cherry struck out two.
On offense, Bradley Strong was 1-2 with the only RBI in the game, scoring Cody Daily. Daniel Gonzalez and Johan Cruz also had singles.
Great Falls 11, Missoula 1
The Voyagers were in complete sync this game, combining dominant hitting and pitching. Jake Jarvis led the offense with four RBIs, his only hit being a three run blast to go with two walks. Aaron Schnurbusch was 2-3 with four runs scored, off a double, triple and two walks. Corey Zangari and Mitch Roman each had two walks in addition to one and two RBIs, respectively.
Yosmer Solorzano gave the Voyagers a great start, striking out six batters over six scoreless innings. Ryan Hinchley gave up the lone Osprey run in his inning of work while Brandon Magallones and Jaider Rocha each threw perfect innings.
