Charlotte reliever Brad Goldberg was the lone representative of the White Sox organization in this game. Goldberg entered the game in the in the 7th and was perhaps a little too amped up, walking a batter and then throwing a wild pitch. To his credit, he composed himself and struck out a batter.
Jacksonville 6, Birmingham 5
The Barons got a little help from a former AL MVP, but fell just short as they were clipped in the 9th inning by the Jacksonville Suns. Rehabbing Justin Morneau went 1-3 with two walks and shortstop Eddy Alvarez went 3-5 with a double to lead the offense.
Starter James Dykstra allowed four runs over 4.2 innings, but the Birmingham bullpen did a good job keeping the game close the rest of the way. Brian Clark pitched 2.1 innings in long relief, allowing one run to score. Colin Klevan then pitched a scoreless 8th in his Double-A debut. Peter Tago came into the game in the 9th and should of had a scoreless inning, however, a Courtney Hawkins error allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Potomac 7, Winston-Salem 2
Starter Tanner Banks allowed six runs over 4.1 inning as the Potomac Nats rolled over the Dash on Wednesday. Potomac starter Mark Blackmar was released by the White Sox organization last year, so he achieved a bit of revenge against his old team by going seven strong innings and earning the win. Second baseman Toby Thomas collected two hits and first baseman Telvin Nash walked twice.
Thad Lowry will get the start as the Dash look to even the series.
Lexington 13, Kannapolis 6
The Intimidators held a comfortable 5-1 lead entering the top of the sixth inning, but everything fell apart from then on as Lexington put up an eight-run 6th inning and a four-run 9th inning. Starter Brannon Easterling was knocked out of the 6th and reliever Alex Katz was victimized for four runs over just a third of an inning.
Shortstop Johan Cruz and first baseman K.J. Woods were on base machines as they each doubled and walked twice. Catcher Seby Zavala went 2-3 and hit a three-run home run but was ejected in that nightmarish 6th inning.
Max Beatty will take the mound Thursday as the Intimidators hope to get their first win of the series.
Orem 6, Great Falls 4 (11 innings)
A 9th inning comeback was spoiled as the Orem Owlz defeated the Voyagers in the extra innings. Down two runs entering the bottom of the 9th, Corey Zangari doubled and scored on a Mitch Roman single. Then with two outs, pinch-hitter Casey Schroeder hit a clutch double to tie the game. Unfortunately Ryan Hinchley gave up three runs in the top of the 11th.
2016 7th round draft pick Bernardo Flores started the game and pitched well, only allowing one earned run over four innings.
Chris Comito will get the start on Thursday as the Voyagers hope for revenge against Orem.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Cubs 2
Starter Edinxon Arias entered the game with an ERA way above 10.00 but pitched beautifully, only allowing one run on three hits over five inning to earn the win. C/OF Jacob Cooper supported Arias with a two-run home run. The 20 year-old is repeating AZL and hitting .432/.475/.703 over nine games this season. Third baseman Zach Remillard struck out twice in his professional debut after his National Championship run with Coastal Carolina.
DSL Reds 6, DSL White Sox 5
Jhoandro Alfaro went 2-3 with a walk to raise his season average to .275/.442/.400.
