It was a strange day down on the farm, featuring offensive explosions and droughts at the same time while Chris Volstad couldn’t miss a single bat in his start. Kannapolis was postponed.
Pawtucket 6, Charlotte 4
Chris Volstad had himself a strange and rough start – giving up six runs on ten hits (three homers) in six innings. The weird part? He gave up no walks and struck out no batters. Juan Minaya and Matt Purke threw two scoreless innings to close the game.
On offense, the depleted Knights relied on Jason Bourgeois went 1-4 with a three run double, keeping the Knights batting title (.339) over Jason Coats (.337), who also went 1-4 with a double. The other RBI came courtesy of Kevan Smith, who went 0-4.
Birmingham 9, Biloxi 1
Tyler Barnette got the start and surrendered only one run over six innings, striking out four and walking none. Andre Wheeler threw a perfect inning and Matt Cooper struck out three batters in two innings.
The Barons came out guns blazing, with six batters having multi-hit games. Trey Michalczewski led the way by going 2-4 with a double, two RBIS and a walk. Keenyn Walker also went 2-4 with two RBIs. Adam Engel saw his average continue to climb, as he went 2-6 with a double while Eddy Alvarez went 0-3 with a walk, but scored two runs.
Myrtle Beach 12, Winston-Salem 10 (F/12)
The Dash offense did its job, led by Marcus Davis‘ 4-6 day with three RBIs. Brett Austin had himself a great game, going 3-4 with three runs scored, a two run home run and two walks. Zack Collins also chipped in two RBIs, going 1-6 with a double and walk. Mason Robbins went 4-7 and Cleuluis Rondon went 3-5 with a walk.
Jordan Stephens had a decent start, giving up four runs over five innings with two walks and four strikeouts, but he did surrender seven hits. Sadly the bullpen couldn’t hold it together with Robinson Leyer giving up a run in his inning, Jacob Morris giving up three runs in his, Manny Martinez blowing the save in his three innings of work, giving up an unearned run and Euclides Leyer giving up the game winning runs in his two innings of work.
Grand Junction 5, Great Falls 4
Aron McRee had a good start for the Voyagers, giving up four runs (three earned) in seven innings, while striking out seven batters to no walks. Sadly, Michael Horejsei lost the game with tough luck in extras, giving up one unearned run in his three innings of work.
Alex Call went 2-4 with an RBI from the leadoff spot while Aaron Schnurbusch went 2-5 with an RBI to keep his batting average at a stellar .372. Mitch Roman chipped in two RBIs after going 1-3 and Frank Califano was 2-3 with a walk.
AZL Brewers 9, AZL White Sox 0
It was a rough day for the AZL White Sox as the team had an astounding eight errors, three of which belonged to shortstop Amado Nunez. The Sox had five hits, all singles, from Joel Booker, Nunez, Jacob Cooper, Luis Curbelo and Zach Remillard.
The pitching didn’t fair much better, with Luis Ledo giving up five runs (two earned) in his two innings of work. Ryan Boelter faced similarly bad luck giving up two runs (one earned) in his two innings. Evan Bell gave earned both of his surrendered runs in his three innings of work. Carlos Diaz was the only pitcher to not give up a run.
