7/19/2016 Recap: Knights walk-off for eighth time this year and Great Falls rolls

Charlotte 4, Scranton/WB 3
Despite a pedestrian 45-53 overall record, it has been a magical season for the Charlotte Knights in terms of late-inning heroics. Down 3-2 entering the bottom of the 9th inning, the Knights staged a rally that culminated in a Jake Peter walk-off single. It was unbelievably the 8th walk-off win of the season for the Knights this year.
The Knights were out-hit by Scranton 12 to 6 and starter Anthony Ranaudo danced around nine hits to only allow three runs over his seven innings of work. Reliever Juan Minaya also flirted with danger, allowing three hits and two walks over his two scoreless innings.
Kameron Loe will get the start on Thursday as the Knights look to sweep the team with the best record in all of Minor League Baseball.
Winston-Salem 13, Myrtle Beach 7
The Dash won by a touchdown over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to avenge an embarrassing loss the night before. Outfielder Mason Robbins highlighted a six-run 4th inning with a grand slam and third basemanĀ Gerson Montilla added three hits in the rout. Catcher Zack Collins continues to impress, as he went 2-4 with a walk to raise his average to .350 in his short stint with the Dash.
Starter Thad Lowry was the recipient of all this run support, but he didn’t last long enough to earn the win. Lowry allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk over four innings. Reliever Taylore Cherry made his Dash debut and allowed two runs to score over two innings of work. The only pitcher to have a clean inning was Yelmison Peralta, who now has seven scoreless innings thus far with the Dash after being promoted from Kannapolis.
Spencer Adams will start a new series against Potomac on Thursday.
Great Falls 7, Grand Junction 2
Starter Chris Comito only allowed one earned run over seven innings and Aaron Schnurbusch and Casey Schroeder provided all the fireworks for the Voyagers. Comito struck out five batters and only allowed four hits and one walk during his outing.
I am not sure what else Aaron Schnurbusch needs to do to prove his mastery over this level, the 28th round draft pick went 3-4 with a walk and a stolen base and is now hitting .396/.508/.573. Catcher Casey Schroeder had a perfect night at the plate, going 2-2 with a double, a triple, two walks and four runs batted in. First baseman Corey Zangari went 1-3 with a walk and is quietly heating up. The 19 year-old is hitting .350 over his last ten games.
Great Falls is off Wednesday but will return to action against the Orem Owlz on Thursday.
AZL Athletics 10, AZL White Sox 4
The AZL Sox pitching could not contain the AZL Athletics lineup and were defeated on Tuesday. Sox starter Victor Done allowed two runs over three innings and stuck out five but walked six. Winston-Salem pitcher Connor Walsh struck out the side in a perfect 1-2-3 inning in a rehab assignment outing.
Shortstop Amado Nunez went 1-3 with a walk and outfielder Trevin Sonnier went 2-4 with a double to led the offense.
The AZL Sox have the day off on Wednesday but will return to action against the AZL Reds on Thursday.
DSL White Sox 5, DSL Orioles 1
White Sox starter Nelson Acosta threw two scoreless innings and did not allow a hit. However, he did allow one walk, which is notable because it was only the third free pass he has conceded in 35.2 innings. The 18 year-old has a 1.77 ERA.
