It was a solid night for the Voyagers, as they came away victorious and were led by Aron McRee and Aaron Schnurbusch. McRee was terrific in his start, giving up just one run over six frames, while Schnurbusch carried the team offensively with five hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Alex Call and Johan Cruz went deep in the Intimidators’ win, while Andres Sanchez pitched six scoreless innings in his start for the AZL White Sox, but was let down by his bullpen and lackluster defense in the loss.
Indianapolis 3, Charlotte 1
Recently promoted southpaw David Holmberg got the start, lasting six innings and giving up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Chris Beck followed Holmberg with two scoreless innings in relief.
At the plate, Vinny Rottino had a pair of hits and a run scored, and Tony Campana had a single and the team’s only RBI. Jason Bourgeois, Jason Coats, Jerry Sands, and Daniel Muno all had one hit as well.
The Knights and Indians clash again tonight, and Tyler Danish will make the start.
Montgomery 8, Birmingham 2
Spencer Adams made his Double-A debut, firing six innings while giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits with one strikeout. The bullpen had a rough night outside of Matt Cooper, as the young righty threw 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out two.
Offensively, lead off man Marcus Lemon led the way, as he had a pair of base knocks and two RBIs. Brady Shoemaker and Hunter Jones both had two hits a piece as well, while Keenyn Walker hit a double and scored a run in the loss.
The Barons and Biscuits meet again tonight, and Tyler Barnette is set to start.
Potomac 9, Winston-Salem 8
Jordan Stephens started for the Dash, and he went six innings, giving up three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Jacob Morris did a nice job in his relief appearance, as he threw 1.1 scoreless innings while punching out two. The Dash came up with four in the top of the ninth to take an 8 to 7 lead, but Ryan Riga blew the save and suffered the loss, giving up a walk off home run to Nationals’ Drew Vettleson in the bottom of the ninth.
At the dish, Marcus Davis led the way, going 3 for 4 with a home run, his fourth of the season. Nick Basto had two hits and two RBIs, while Landon Lassiter had a pair of hits and one run scored. Telvin Nash came off the bench to pinch hit in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded, and he launched a grand slam to give the Dash an 8 to 7 lead. This was Nash’s seventh home run of the season.
The Dash and Nationals will play a doubleheader starting tonight. Zachary Thompson will make the start in game one, while Kelvis Valerio will start in game two.
Kannapolis 7, Lakewood 5
Luis Martinez started for the Intimidators, but lasted just 2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out three. The bullpen did an excellent job, as Dylan Barrow, Alex Katz, and Ben Wright combined for seven runs of one run ball, with Barrow earning the win and Wright earning the save.
Lead off man and recently promoted Alex Call led the way at the plate, as he had three hits including a home run to start off the game, his first since being called up. Johan Cruz had a pair of hits and two runs scored as well, including a solo home run, his fourth of the year. K.J. Woods contributed with a two hit game, while Danny Mendick, Antonio Rodriguez, and Grant Massey all had one hit and a RBI a piece.
Kannapolis opens up a four game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds beginning tonight, and Jimmy Lambert will make the start.
Great Falls 12, Orem 1
Aron McRee was brilliant in his start, as he went six innings while giving up just one run on six hits with four strikeouts. The bullpen had a nice night, as Lane Hobbs pitched 1.1 hitless innings and was than followed Jake Elliot, who pitched a scoreless ninth while striking out two.
It was the Aaron Schnurbusch show at the plate for the Voyagers, as the power hitting lefty went 5 for 6 with a double, home run, and four RBIs. It was his second home run of his professional career. Mitch Roman also played a major role in the win, as he had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Anthony Villa, Casey Schroeder, Jackson Glines, and Frank Califano all had one hit and one RBI each as well.
The Voyagers and Owls will meet again tonight, and Alec Hansen will make his second start in a Voyagers uniform.
AZL Reds 5, AZL White Sox 2
Andres Sanchez was terrific in his start, as he pitched six scoreless innings, while giving up just one hit and striking out three. The bullpen and defense costed the White Sox a win and wasted a terrific start from Sanchez. Matt Foster was the lone bright spot out of the pen, as he pitched a hitless frame while striking out one.
The bats for the White Sox did not come to life until the top of the ninth, where they were able to plate two runs, which wouldn’t be enough. Zach Remillard highlighted the night offensively with two hits, including a triple, and one RBI and a run scored. Amado Nunez had one base knock and a run scored, and Felix Mercedes had one hit on the night as well.
The White Sox return to action tonight against the AZL Cubs.
